Featuring a former Marine who is struggling with life as a veteran, this sweet yet sexy book finds our (broken) hero with a second chance at happiness. A promising new author, Olivia Hayle’s writing is solid and the characters are easy to like. I really enjoyed Oliver and seeing him come back to life once our heroine enters the picture.
The story follows Oliver, a man who has returned to his hometown after years in the Marines. He was once prom king, a sports star who was liked by all – but he’s not that guy anymore. He’s given up on having a real relationship, but when Lucy comes to town, it’s hard to ignore the attraction that sparks between them. Something about her makes it easy to flirt and smile, and Oliver likes the man he becomes when she’s around. But Lucy has her reasons for coming to town, and she’s struggling to rebuild her own life.
It’s a pretty laidback and sweet romance that features a few sexy times. The story is much more about these two finding their place in life and slowly falling for each other. Oliver is a great guy who has seen a lot, and that means building a relationship with him is complicated. Overall, it’s a light, well written book – though honestly I wished there was a little more grit to the story. The only real angst comes from these two fumbling through the early stages of their relationship; Oliver doesn’t question whether he wants to pursue Lucy for long. He’s definitely more hesitant than broken, but I liked the story as a whole. Looking forward to seeing what this author writes next.
