⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Liked it til the cliffhanger

Faking For Her

Jeez, I liked this a lot until the abrupt ending and what I assume is a cliffhanger! I received an ARC and was unaware that this was not a standalone, so just as I thought I was getting to the happy ending, things took a turn for the worse. Before that, it was a fun, sexy book that moved quickly and held my interest the whole time. So if you go into this knowing that things won’t be resolved at the end, you’ll probably have a much greater enjoyment of the book as a whole.

The story follows Cole, a former foster child who is asked by an old high school flame to attend her sister’s wedding – in order to stick it to her parents. Back when they were teens, Laney took Cole home to meet her parents and their disapproval of the relationship made Cole question whether Laney ever truly liked him, as well as question his self worth. Now that time has passed, Cole has become a successful investor and the kind of guy her parents would actually love Laney to bring home… not that she knows that. It takes some (hilarious) convincing on Laney’s part to get Cole to agree to play the role of boyfriend at the wedding, and as they work out plans for the big day, all of those old feelings rise up to the surface.

It took a little while for me to warm up to the book, but once I did I really got into the story. There’s plenty of humor and an enemies to lovers feel to the book, plus many, many sexy times along the way. This does have a pretty high steam factor, especially given that it’s novella-length, but there was so much time spent with these two together that it didn’t completely overwhelm the story. I liked Cole a lot and enjoyed seeing how he’s made a good life for himself. I was definitely taken aback by the cliffhanger, but looking back there were plenty of loose threads that remained unresolved as the book drew to the end, so perhaps I should’ve anticipated that. I’m pretty invested in this couple now, so I’d love to see them find their happy ending.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
