⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ WARNING: this novella will make you hungry

If You Give A Jerk A Gingerbread (Reindeer Falls, #2)

Oh my god, the FOOD references in this one were a serious problem for me… as in, my stomach was growling pretty much the entire time. Our heroine is a baker, and the book is centered around a Christmas bakeoff, so there is a lot of cookie talk, and cheesecake talk, and… you get the point. It’s delightfully festive, light, funny, and pretty much adorable all around (with a splash of steam). I really, really liked the first book in this series of holiday-themed novellas, and the second installment did not disappoint.

The story follows Ginger, a baker who is excited to be entering into a festive competition hosted by the Food Network. When she meets Keller, a celebrity chef, they have instant chemistry and she can’t believe that one of the judges is flirting with her and seems to love her cookies. The only problem? He’s not actually a judge, he’s one of her competitors, and the sparks fly between these two as they battle it out. Since the story is told from Ginger’s perspective, the reader can’t be certain of Keller’s intentions, but he is a charming and flirtatious guy so Ginger finds it impossible to resist him. But when the competition is over, the logical conclusion is that Keller will return home and leave Ginger brokenhearted.

This is novella-length, and it absolutely flies by. It’s so funny, with a lightness that works for the Christmas season incredibly well. Think of this as a modern Hallmark movie – we get the meet cute, a taste of romance, and the promise of more to come. Just add in a little more steam and that’s what this series is all about. Can’t wait to read the final installment, because these have been fantastic so far.
