REVIEW: Mind Games & Dangerous Games by T.K. Leigh

A heart-wrenching forbidden romance depicted in a prequel novella and full length book, this love story is angsty to the extreme but so well written. Mind Games, the prequel, is currently free on Amazon and Dangerous Games releases on Tuesday, January 7th, so it’s the perfect time to give this duet a try. Blurbs for both books as well as my reviews provided below.

Mind Games ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Emotional and sexy with sizzling chemistry

What a way to get you hooked on this romance! This short and sexy prequel novella has some sizzling chemistry and an emotional, angsty feel. Featuring a forbidden romance between a woman and her former fiancé’s brother, this story gives the reader the background they need to fully appreciate Izzy and Asher’s love story in their full length book. While I found a few things unnecessarily repetitive from previous books in the series (since we view some of the same events from a different perspective), and absolutely would’ve appreciated Asher’s side of the story, there’s a whole lot that I loved about the novella.

The story follows Izzy and Asher as they run into each other in Vegas. Eight years have passed since Izzy ended her engagement to Asher’s brother, but that makes any relationship between them in the present no less forbidden. Years ago, Izzy and Asher spent many long nights getting to know each other, and somewhere along the way an innocent friendship began to spark into more. Nothing ever happened – and they’re both insistent that nothing CAN ever happen – but that doesn’t mean that the feelings aren’t there. Now that they’ve run into each other again, it’s a lot more difficult to ignore the attraction that sparks between them.

The writing is really great, making it is easy to feel the emotional connection as well as the heat. If you’re a fan of forbidden romance, I don’t doubt that you’ll love this story – it’s got everything you could want (except maybe Asher’s perspective). I’m writing this review before reading Asher and Izzy’s full length story so that I’m not biased from that, but you’d better believe that I WILL be reading their complete love story. It’s highly doubtful that you’ll be able to read this and not want to read on to see how it all plays out.

Blurb:

Eight years ago, I agreed to marry the man of my dreams.

Eight years ago, I realized I’d also given a piece of my heart to his brother.

Eight years ago, I made the decision to walk away from both men.

What choice did I have? I couldn’t stay with Jessie knowing the flame I carried for Asher burned just as bright.

Maybe even brighter.

So I did the only thing I could. I walked away with no intention of seeing either man again.

Until I step into a bar in Vegas and see a much more mature, much sexier version of Asher York, a guitar strapped to him, his soulful voice reminding me of everything I’ve tried to forget.

But there’s no forgetting Asher York. And when he looks at me with the same raw hunger, there’s no denying the fire between us still burns.

Can I look past the reason I left all those years ago for one night with him?

There’s only one way to find out.

Let the games begin.

Author’s Note: Mind Games can be enjoyed either separate from or in conjunction with the rest of the books in the Dating Games series. This is a short novel written from a different point of view regarding the events that take place during the first 1/3 of the previous book in the series, Wicked Games. In it, two friends are stuck in Vegas during a blackout, each finding their own trouble. Wicked Games was Chloe’s story. This is Izzy’s story. So if you’ve read Wicked Games and are wondering what happened between Izzy and Asher that night, this is your answer. If you haven’t, you can still read and enjoy this. But if I’ve done my job right, you’ll want to go back and read Wicked Games next.

Dangerous Games ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well… T.K. Leigh must’ve done her job extremely well, because my heart HURTS after reading this angsty, forbidden romance. I fell for this couple while reading their prequel novella, Mind Games (not essential reading, but it will DEFINITELY influence your opinion of the story). The chemistry jumps off the page and the connection Asher and Izzy share is undeniable. If you’re a fan of forbidden romance and enduring chest pains from the sheer weight of the angst, this is the book for you.

The story follows Izzy and Asher one year after their ill-fated one night stand in Vegas (as depicted in Mind Games). They got to know each other years ago… while Izzy was dating, then engaged, to Asher’s brother. That relationship didn’t work out because Asher always held a piece of Izzy’s heart, but she was unwilling to acknowledge that and destroy the brothers’ relationship with each other. Instead, she’s chosen to ignore her feelings and move on with her life. That becomes impossible when Asher’s brother calls up Izzy with a request that she spend some time helping Asher rediscover his muse, not knowing the full extent of what he’s asking.

Did I absolutely love every part of this book? No. At times the push/pull between Asher and Izzy got to me, but I was always completely invested in seeing them find their HEA. There is also one minor subplot towards the end that had me scratching my head, but the rest of the book was really fantastic. It held my attention from start to finish and kept those pages turning. I think it bears mentioning that your reading experience will be completely different if you read the prequel – in ways that are both good and bad. Good because that’s where you really feel the chemistry between Asher and Izzy, as well as understand the foundation of the relationship better. Bad because there’s a little overlap between the two, and because Dangerous Games starts off feeling like a love triangle, which is uncomfortable when you know just what Izzy is hiding from both men. Whether or not you want to read it is really your choice; the story will make sense either way. Ultimately, this is not a flawless read but the quality of the writing and the depth of emotion easily pushes this into 5-star territory. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Blurb:

Asher York.
Talented musician.
The voice of an angel.
The body of an Adonis.
And the man I happened to have a one-night stand with in Vegas.

No big deal, right? What happens in Vegas… Well, you know how the saying goes.

Did I mention I was once engaged to Asher’s brother?

I walked away, hoping my momentary lack of judgment would stay in the past.

I should have known it wouldn’t. Not with my luck.

Now Asher York is back in my life, and that flame I hoped would flicker and die still burns brightly.

But can I put my heart on the line, knowing this man has the power to obliterate it?
Can I allow myself to come between two brothers?

There’s only one way to find out.

Let the games begin…
