⭐️⭐️⭐️ Just okay

I have to hand it to Taylor Holloway, she reimagined the Little Mermaid into a storyline that works with a modern Hollywood setting. It’s original but still has plenty of references to the beloved story. This series as a whole hasn’t been my favorite, but this is one of the stronger entries. It’s still a little over the top with issues along the way, but there were definitely things that I liked.

The story follows Ariel, an aspiring singer/actress who agrees to do the vocals behind the scenes for a well known actress (Ursula, of course), not realizing the ramifications of her actions. When she meets Derek, the star of the musical, they hit it off immediately. But drama quickly gets in the way – Derek’s fake relationship with Ursula and Ariel’s secret – and their budding relationship is tested.

I didn’t love it; I didn’t hate it. I’ve definitely read better by Holloway but I’ve also read worse. If you’re looking for a quick, light read with plenty of references to the Little Mermaid and a Hollywood feel, you might enjoy this. I didn’t really get invested in the couple at all, mostly just enjoyed the hints of The Little Mermaid and how well it worked in this scenario. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review of this modern fairytale.

Derek Prince is a quadruple threat.
He can sing, dance, act, and charm the panties off me without breaking a sweat.
And now that I’m in his new movie, shaking my sequined-covered butt right in front of him, these panties are going nowhere but down.

Instead of serving cocktails in a karaoke joint, this broke little barmaid is finally moving up in the world.

I’ve been cast in Derek’s new movie, but there’s a massive catch.
His jealous costar wants him for herself.
In exchange for a shot at my dream, I promised her I’d stay away from him.

But Derek’s relentless pursuit of me is creating all sorts of new dreams.
Steamy ones.

One look from him and I’m breathless.
One dance with him and I’m tempted.
One night with him and I’ll be lost.

After always wanting to be part of his world, he wants to be a part of mine.

I want to say yes, but the stakes are sky high.
My dream, this movie, and his career could be on the line.
Oh, and my heart.
That too…

‘His Little Barmaid’ is a sweet and sexy romcom featuring a cocky movie star hero and a stubborn, sassy heroine on a crazy road to happily ever after. It stands alone with no cheating, cliffhangers, or nonsense.
