Short and steamy, this novella features the same writing quality we’ve come to know and love from Avery Flynn, but not the character development. It’s light and sexy with obvious chemistry between the characters and a distinct insta-love vibe; a quick and fun read that doesn’t delve too deep. I’ve definitely got my issues with it (more on that later), but it will satisfy your craving for a steamy read.
The story follows Aubrey, a former wild child who has been living the small town life and caring for her family recently. When she goes on a singles cruise with some friends, she meets a guy… only to realize that he is the last person she should fall for. A movie star known for his pinchable butt (a la Chris Evans), Carter is trying to go unnoticed while on vacation in order to secure a role. Unfortunately for him, Aubrey runs an Insta account that’s dedicated to tracking his sightings and more. As the two get up to trouble in and out of the bedroom, things get more complicated as feelings get involved.
I usually enjoy Flynn’s work but the novella format didn’t do this any favors. The focus is much more on lust than love, with more steamy scenes than deep conversations. If you’re okay with insta-love, it might work better for you, because the chemistry is there. I personally couldn’t buy into the depth of their feelings given the number of non-sexual interactions. I was also kind of confused as to how this ties into the series – Aubrey’s friends are a VERY minor part of the novella, so the connection between the books is almost non-existent. That being said, it’s not a bad way to spend a few hours, and is easily read in one sitting. I wish it had more substance, but it’s still a light and fun read. I received an ARC via Social Butterfly PR and am voluntarily leaving a review of this sexy novella.
