That’s right, we’re talking about rich guys. It’s a beloved trope for a reason – there’s something about a bossy alphahole that sparks sexual tension like nothing else. Whether it’s an office romance or a fake relationship, billionaire romances often feature opposites who clash until that tension combusts. Not all of these heroes are billionaires with a B – and not all of them are jerks – but the following 15 books all fall under this category in one way or another.
The Billionaire’s Fake Fiancée by Annika Martin
The inspiration for this week’s list, this fantastic rom com is the only one that hasn’t released yet. It comes out in a few days (April 28th) and I loved it from start to finish. Featuring a growly alpha hero and the sassy heroine his assistant hired as a fake fiancée, it’s a great mix of heart and heat. I loved it from start to finish and was blown away by the quality of the banter and the depth of the relationship.
My instructions were simple: scour the city for the worst fake fiancé money can buy. Have her on my jet Monday morning, dressed appropriately for a yacht vacation.
I need a woman believable enough to convince a certain client that I’ve changed my playboy ways…yet totally opposite from the supermodels and socialites I usually have on my arm.
Somebody too annoying to tempt me—no emotional entanglements, thank you very much. This is business only.
If she’s unfazed by my looks and wealth, all the better.
Should be easy. Right?
Apparently not, because my people go and hire Tabitha. My hairdresser.
What were they thinking? Yes, I said annoying, but I didn’t mean Tabitha, the most frustrating woman in the world.
Tabitha is bubbly. She has a pet hamster. She loves Hello Kitty, and she gets under my skin like nobody else.
As if that’s not bad enough, the minute we step on deck, she thinks that certain people on the yacht are up to something shady—based completely on her soap opera knowledge.
She won’t listen when I tell her she’s being ridiculous.
But as the days go by, I find that we’re actually having fun. And our fake kisses are heating up. And suddenly her wild theories aren’t sounding so strange after all…

The Stopover by T.L. Swan
This intense and STEAMY read features a hero who is both incredibly bossy AND the heroine’s boss. It’s an office romance where the couple starts working together after they share one dirty, sexy night together (not realizing they’ll meet again), and it’s got soooo much tension.
A memorable night of passion refuses to stay just a memory in this sizzling and scandalous romance from bestselling author T L Swan.
I was upgraded to first class on a flight from London to New York.
The food, champagne, and service were impeccable.
The blue-eyed man sitting next to me, even better.
He was suave and intelligent.
We talked and laughed, and something clicked.
Fate took over and the plane was grounded, and we had an unexpected stopover for the night.
With no plans, we made our own.
We danced and laughed our way around Boston and had a night of crazy passion that no woman would ever forget.
That was twelve months ago, and I haven’t heard from him—until today.
I started a new job and met the CEO. You can imagine my surprise to see those naughty blue eyes dance with delight when he saw me across the mahogany desk.
But I’m not that carefree girl anymore. My life has changed, I have responsibilities.
I just got an email.
He wants to see me in his office for a private meeting at 8:00 a.m.
Naughty blue eyes have no place in the workplace.
What kind of private meeting does he have in mind?
Stuck-Up Suit by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward
I loved the meet cute in this strangers to lovers romance, which sparks some serious chemistry and shapes the relationship that follows. As the title implies, the hero is a stuck-up businessman, and it’s an emotional and steamy ride for our couple to get their happily ever after.
It started out like any other morning on the train.
Until I became mesmerized by the guy sitting across the aisle.
He was barking at someone on his phone like he ruled the world.
Who did the stuck-up suit think he was…God?
Actually, he looked like a God. That was about it.
When his stop came, he got up suddenly and left. So suddenly, he dropped his phone on the way out.
I might have picked it up.
I might have gone through all of his photos and called some of the numbers.
I might have held onto the mystery man’s phone for days―until I finally conjured up the courage to return it.
When I traipsed my ass across town to his fancy company, he refused to see me.
So, I left the phone on the empty desk outside the arrogant jerk’s office.
I might have also left behind a dirty picture on it first though.
I didn’t expect him to text back.
I didn’t expect our exchanges to be hot as hell.
I didn’t expect to fall for him―all before we even met.
The two of us couldn’t have been any more different.
Yet, you know what they say about opposites.
When we finally came face to face, we found out opposites sometimes do more than attract―we consumed each other.
Nothing could have prepared me for the ride he took me on. And I certainly wasn’t prepared for where I’d wind up when the ride was over.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.
Huge Deal by Lauren Layne
Prefer a boss who isn’t a total jerk? This hero is for you. A mix of light and emotional, this office romance features a Wall Street broker and his longtime assistant. Though she’s harbored feelings for him for years, our heroine has accepted that it might be time to move on… and that’s when things really start to get interesting. Part of a series, this stands alone but is better when read in order.
Even for a top-gun banker, temptation this hot is quite a gamble, in a sexy Wall Street romp from New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne.
An alpha among the wolves of Wall Street, Kennedy Dawson rose to the top of the pack by striking the right contracts at the right times. But there’s one deal that’s been giving him a run for his money—a pact to never again let his assistant, Kate, get under his skin. She may be smart, gorgeous, and sharp as a whip, but she’s definitely off-limits.
Kate Henley isn’t a banker, but she knows a thing or two about risk management—specifically, about managing her attraction to her smolderingly sexy boss. She already fell once, and Kennedy showed no sign of paying a return on her investment. So when Kennedy’s brother starts pursuing her, Kate figures she has the best of both worlds. Jack is charming, rich, very attentive, and the spitting image of his older brother.
It’s also making Kennedy think twice. But to win Kate’s heart, he’ll have to broker the deal of a lifetime…and prove he’s worth the risk.
Corrupt Kingdom by Ava Harrison
This semi-dark, intense read features a hero whose business isn’t legal, and whose meet cute with the heroine is… less than ideal. He’s her (protective) captor, and she’s the kind of strong heroine who won’t let it break her. It’s an original and mysterious read that will keep you hooked from start to finish. If you like your romance a little more complicated, then Corrupt Kingdom might be the winner.
They say Cyrus Reed is ruthless. That he rules the underworld with an iron fist.
A criminal. A murderer. A monster.
He controlled fortunes and amassed empires.
Our paths should never have crossed, but one poker game intertwined our fate.
I woke up stranded on his island.
Forced to play a dangerous game of hate and lust.
He said he took me to protect me.
That he was saving me.
But who will save me from him?
Resist by K. Bromberg
You want chemistry? This is the couple for you. The start of an outstanding duet, Resist features one of the more unique couples I’ve read about, and their love story is completely captivating. Pairing a divorce attorney with a madam (yes, you read that right), it’s one complicated relationship. With touches of suspense and a great buildup of intimacy, Bromberg has crafted a wholly satisfying story.
From the New York Times bestselling author of the Driven series comes a powerful romance about reaching great heights through low depths.
Who says you have to play by the rules to get what you want?
Agreeing to meet Ryker Lockhart is my first mistake. Rich, handsome, and more than intriguing, he thinks blackmail will bend me to his will.
But he’s wrong.
I may have done a few things that weren’t exactly legal, but I have my own reasons for that. The last thing I’m going to do is let some high-powered divorce attorney come into my life, have my body, and rule my heart. Not to mention ruin everything that I have carefully built in just a short amount of time.
But as much as I try to resist him, and against my better judgment, there is something about him that has me agreeing to his proposal.
I’m putting everything on the line for him. I just hope I won’t lose everything when this is all over.
The Contract by Melanie Moreland
Billionaire bosses make the best fake fiancés, and I loved the evolution of the hero in this one. When your overbearing boss demands that you marry him, it’s sure to stir up some conflict. This hero is unrepentantly demanding, and I loved that the heroine proved to be a worthy match. And while this does technically start off a series, I read it as a standalone and was completely satisfied with the HEA.
A tyrant by day, a playboy by night. That is the reputation that precedes Richard VanRyan. He lives life the way he wants, no concern for the opinion of others. He cares for no one, is completely unrepentant, and he has no desire to change his ways.
Katharine Elliott works under Richard as his PA. She despises him and his questionable ethics, but endures all the garbage he sends her way, because she needs the job. Her end goal is far more important than the daily abuse and demands she tolerates from her nasty tyrant of a boss.
Until the day, he asks her for something she never expected. A new role with a personal contract— fiancée instead of PA.
What happens when two people who loathe each other, have to live together and act as though they are madly in love?
That’s what happens.
Can the power of love really change a person?
Will they survive the contract?
What do you do when the one person you hate the most becomes the one person you can’t live without?
(Not) The One by Donna Alam
I loved the chemistry in this steamy, emotional read. It’s got an extremely memorable meet cute, sizzling attraction, and a complicated road to happily ever after. The hero is a wealthy alpha, and we discover a lot more about his personality as the book goes on and there are consequences to his actions.
Three reasons why rebound s-e-x with my hot neighbor is a very bad idea.
1.My life is already complicated enough
2.He knows I wear Batman undies (please don’t ask)
3.He’s older, sophisticated, and so hot he makes me weak at the knees
I know that’s more than three. But it still didn’t stop me.
On paper, we’re the worst kind of match.
I’m . . . not. My second job is pet sitting!
He says we’re friends.
I say barely, but I do love those benefits . . .
The man rocks my world,
But he’s so not the one.
Which is unfortunate,
Because he is the the one who got me pregnant.
Disclaimer: This is not (just) a story about accidental pregnancy. It’s a story about accidental love.
The Allure of Julian Lefray by R.S. Grey
While the hero in this one is our heroine’s new boss and he’s certainly wealthy, he’s a lot easier to like than some of the other guys on this list. As a romantic comedy, this has definite sexual tension but keeps things mostly light, and I loved the chemistry that sparks between our couple as they navigate their working relationship.
Subject: Justin Timberlake Nudes!
Lily, you predictable perv. I knew you’d open this email faster if I tempted you with a glimpse of JT’s “PP”. Well, put your pants back on and grab some bubbly because I have much better news to share.
I GOT A JOB!
As of tomorrow, I’ll be the new executive assistant at Lorena Lefray Designs. I am SO excited, but there’s one itty bitty problem: I won’t be Lorena’s assistant. I’ll be working for her older brother, Julian.
I know what you’re thinking- “But Jo, what’s the problem?”
Google him. Now. He’s the man in the fitted navy suit whose face reminds you that there’s hope yet for this cruel, ugly world. Keep scrolling…Do you see those dimples? Yup. That’s the Julian Lefray I will be reporting to tomorrow morning.
Lord, help us all…
Love Sincerely Yours by Sara Ney & Meghan Quinn
A co-write from two of my favorite rom com authors, this office romance pairs a grouchy boss with an employee with nothing to lose. I loved how the romance begins, with anonymous emails and an attraction that builds from loathing to love. While there’s definitely some humor (both authors excel at comedy), there’s also an intensity to the romance and plenty of emotion.
Dear Mister.. . . no, too formal.
Hey there sweet cheeks. . . no, too forward.
To whom it may concern,
Full disclosure; before we move forward with this email, I would like it to be known that I have consumed an adequate amount of alcoholic beverages to intoxicate myself tonight. Three margaritas, two shots, and one beer—because it was free.
I think it’s important to be open and honest with your co-workers, don’t you?
So here I am, being open and honest. Drunk but honest. Or just drunk with lust? You decide.
I have a hopeless, foolish, schoolgirl crush on you when you are the last person on earth I should be falling for. Did you know people around the office call you a sadist? An egomaniac. An insensitive, arrogant prick. But what they don’t know is your bark is worse than your bite. And that bite doesn’t scare me. The fact is, I’d love that bite of yours to nip at my bare skin while we’re both wearing nothing but sheets.
For once I want you to look at me as more than one of your employees.
And as long as we’re being honest, that navy blue suit you wear? With the crisp white shirt? It really makes me want to loosen your tie and show you exactly who’s boss.
Crowne of Lies by CD Reiss
This is one STEAMY marriage of convenience story, with an alpha hero who doesn’t waste any time on niceties. I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily angsty, but it’s certainly a heavier, more emotional read than some of the others on this list. It’s also one of the steamiest, and this hero truly is a bossy billionaire.
Logan Crowne needs one year from Ella.
Twelve months living in his house, holding his hand, wearing his ring on her finger, and in exchange, she’ll get her father’s company in the divorce settlement.
They have one year to convince his skeptical parents that they’re happily in love, and he’s settled enough to run Crowne Industries.
Ella wants the company badly enough to live with a man who will never love her. She’ll sleep in his room and kiss him for show.
Her heart may melt whenever he’s around, and his touch may ignite a fire inside her, but surrender will break her heart.
She’s sure she can last a year without giving him her body.
Man Feast by Krista Sandor
If you’re looking for a lighter, sexier kind of romance, then Krista Sandor’s Bergen Brothers series delivers. This one definitely reads as a standalone, but the whole series is excellent. It pairs a workaholic with a travel writer, and their conflict turns into a whole lotta heat. Though the overall tone is playful and sexy, there are some smaller shots of emotion throughout.
Denver’s hottest CEO is about to meet his match.
Billionaire workaholic Jasper Bergen calls the shots—and that’s just the way he likes it. Period.
As CEO of Bergen Enterprises, he’s dedicated his life to keeping his family’s mountain sports empire profitable. But sales have plateaued, and the company needs a jumpstart.
Enter Elle Reynolds.
She’s a bestselling travel writer whose celebrity adventurer status makes her the perfect choice to boost the company’s public image.
The perfect choice to everyone but Jasper.
Hired by the company’s founders, he has no choice but to work with the free-spirited author.
And while they clash at every turn, Elle can’t quit. Her accountant has swindled her out of millions, and she needs this job to get back on her feet.
But Jasper and Elle may have more in common than they think.
Thanks to their busy schedules, neither’s dated in ages.
Each is experiencing a sexual famine that can only be remedied by a feast—a MAN FEAST.
When they agree to a no-strings night of passion, their sexual chemistry is off the charts.
And these two opposites soon realize there’s a fine line between love and hate.
The Worst Best Man by Lucy Score
It’s been a while since I’ve read this steamy, conflict-filled romance from Lucy Score, but I enjoyed it so much that it got me reading several of her other books. This one has a nice enemies to lovers/opposites attract vibe, a lot of HEAT, and some humor throughout.
The bride is a doll. The groom is the perfect gentleman. But the rest of the wedding party? They’re the stuff of nightmares. Rich? Check. Vapid? Double Check. Entitled? Not enough checks in the world. And the Best Man? More like the Worst Man.
But Maid of Honor Franchesca takes her duties seriously. Kidnapped groom? She’s got this. Rude attendees? You just watch her handle them. So a Best Man with a big attitude and an even bigger…checkbook? Yeah, there’s no way she’s going to let that pretentious, judgmental jackhole ruin her best friend’s wedding. No matter how sexy he is. (Well, that’s the plan anyway…)
Aiden Kilbourn doesn’t do long-term relationships. He’s busy ruling the business world, and has yet to find a woman he can tolerate for longer than a month, two at the outside, anyway. Conquering the unconquerable is basically his bread and butter. And he hasn’t met a challenge that he can’t win. But Franchesca Baranski? This smart-mouthed girl from Brooklyn may just be his downfall.
Devious Lies by Parker S. Huntington
One of my very favorite reads from 2019, Devious Lies is an INTENSE enemies to lovers romance. It’s full of sexual tension, chemistry, and so much emotion. There’ll be times you want to hit the hero, but there are other times he will make you swoon, and I loved the explosive connection between our couple. It’s enemies to lovers in its truest form, and will keep you hooked from start to finish.
“She could enjoy her pretty, perfect world a little longer. Soon enough, everything she owned would be mine.”
I had a plan to escape the friend zone.
Step one: sneak into Reed’s room.
Step two: sleep with him.
But when the lights turned on, it wasn’t familiar blue eyes I saw.
These were dark, angry, and full of demons.
And they belonged to Reed’s much older brother.
Four years later, Nash Prescott is no longer the help’s angry son.
I’m no longer the town’s prized princess.
At twenty-two, I’m broke, in need of a job.
At thirty-two, he’s a billionaire, in need of revenge.
Who cares if my family ruined his?
Who cares if he looks at me with pure loathing?
Who cares if every task he assigns me is designed to torture?
I need the money.
Simple as that.
I’ll suffer his cruelty in silence, knowing there’s one thing he wants more than revenge…
Vicious by L.J. Shen
This antihero is both the heroine’s new boss AND a complete jerk. One of the beloved novels that catapulted Shen’s career, Vicious is angsty, steamy, and full of tension. It’s definitely not for everyone, but Vicious is the kind of character you love to hate and hate to love at the same time. An intense read, Vicious is perfect for those who embrace the alphahole vibe.
They say love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances, and it’s true.
The man who comes to me in my dreams also haunts me in my nightmares.
He is a brilliant lawyer.
A skilled criminal.
A beautiful liar.
A bully and a savior, a monster and a lover.
Ten years ago, he made me run away from the small town where we lived. Now, he came for me in New York, and he isn’t leaving until he takes me with him.
She is a starving artist.
Pretty and evasive like cherry blossom.
Ten years ago, she barged into my life unannounced and turned everything upside down.
She paid the price.
Emilia LeBlanc is completely off-limits, my best friend’s ex-girlfriend. The woman who knows my darkest secret, and the daughter of the cheap Help we hired to take care of our estate.
That should deter me from chasing her, but it doesn’t.
So she hates me. Big fucking deal.
She better get used to me.
