If you read last week’s Teaser Tuesday post, you probably remember me saying that this week is the “calm before the storm.” That’s because next week is a CRAZY GOOD release week!!! There are some really great books coming out, and something for every mood! I’ve got blurbs, dates, and my thoughts on each book below.
May 11 (or sooner): The Hunter by L.J. Shen
Honestly, I haven’t been blown away by some of Shen’s recent work – she’s a very talented author and a lot of people love her, but I think she has the tendency to take things too far. So while I do plan on reading The Hunter (the blurb sounds awesome and the cover is SO GOOD), I’m not at all confident that it will be a 5-star read for me. But will it be boring? Definitely not.
I didn’t mean to star in a sex tape, okay?
It was just one of those unexplainable things. Like Stonehenge, Police Academy 2, and morning glory clouds.
It just happened.
Now my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston’s nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan.
The virginal archer is supposed to babysit my ass while I learn to take my place in Royal Pipelines, my family’s oil company.
Little does she know, that’s not the only pipe I’ll be laying…
I didn’t want this gig, okay?
But the deal was too sweet to walk away from.
I needed the public endorsement; Hunter needed a nanny.
Besides, what’s six months in the grand scheme of things?
It’s not like I’m in danger of falling in love with the appallingly gorgeous, charismatic gazillionaire who happens to be one of Boston’s most eligible bachelors.
No. I will remain immune to Hunter Fitzpatrick’s charm.
Even at the cost of losing everything I have.
Even at the cost of burning down his kingdom.

May 11: The Breakup Artist by Lila Monroe
I just finished this one and it was light, gooey rom com goodness. Monroe excels at writing super low angst, playful reads with some humor and a touch of stem, and this was no different. While the hero didn’t fully win me over, it was such a fun read. I’ll have my book review up on release day!
I’m an expert in break-ups. From the slow fade, to extreme ghosting, to, ‘but you never said I couldn’t send pics of my junk to your step-sister on Instagram’ – I’ve seen it all… and built a mini-empire along the way. My blog, the Break-Up Artist, uses my past heartache to help people move on – and avoid weeping on the floor at 3am consuming their body weight in spray cheese and Oreos. Ahem.
Now, I have a new job that could mean the big-time: helping a famous Hollywood it-couple navigate their tricky break-up. Except not everyone wants them Splitsville. The movie studio needs to keep them together to promote their big movie, and they’ve sent someone to make sure I fail in my first VIP gig.
Wes Baxter. Also known as my ex.
Also ALSO known as, the guy who broke my heart so thoroughly, I had to turn myself into a self-help guru just to get over him.
I’m determined to follow my own advice (no drooling over Wes’s perfect abs, or remembering how he rocked my world) but being trapped together at a luxe country retreat isn’t helping things… And neither is Wes’s early-morning naked swim habit. Soon, love is in the air, the sparks between us are hotter than ever, and I’m seriously questioning my ‘no backsies’ policy.
Wes swears he’s changed. He wants to try again, and he’s got an annoyingly sexy way of convincing me. But can second chances really work? Or has the Break-Up Artist finally met her match?

May 12: A Secret for a Secret by Helena Hunting
This series has been OUTSTANDING and Hunting’s last book, A Favor for a Favor, remains in my top 5 reads of the year so far, so to I am absolutely looking forward to A Secret for a Secret. I’ve been waiting for the perfect binge day to read my ARC (every time I sit down to read it, my husband gets underfoot, lol). I’ll have my review up next week!
From New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting comes a new romance about trading secrets, breaking the rules, and playing for keeps.
My name is Ryan Kingston, and I’m a rule follower. I’ve never been in a fistfight. I always obey the speed limit. I don’t get drunk, and I definitely don’t pick up random women at bars.
Except the night I found out that my whole existence has been a lie.
I got drunk. And picked up a stranger.
Her name was Queenie, and she was everything I’m not: reckless, impulsive, and chaotic. We did shots and traded secrets. And ended up naked at my place.
She left me a thank-you note in the morning and her panties as a parting gift. But no way to contact her.
Six weeks later I’m sitting in the first official team meeting of the season, and there she is. I neglected to mention that I’m the goalie for Seattle’s NHL team.
And Queenie? Turns out she’s the general manager’s daughter.
May 12: Wylde by Sawyer Bennett
I’m almost done reading this one and I am loving it so far! Wylde/Aaron makes a great hero – he’s a shameless playboy who falls in insta-lust for a bookstore owner, and that lust turns into something a whole lot deeper. It’s a slow burn to sizzle where our hero actually COURTS his girl, which was kind of refreshing. I’ll finish this one up today and have my review up next week.
There’s a reason they call me Wylde and it’s not just because it’s my last name.
I might be one of the newest players on the Arizona Vengeance team, but I’m no stranger to the celebrity that goes along with being a professional hockey player. Whether it’s a fan seeking an autograph or a puck bunny looking for more, I’ve grown used to the attention. I not only thrive on it; I use it to my advantage. Let’s just say my bed is rarely empty.
When a quirky redhead at the local bookstore stops me dead in my tracks, I decide to pop in and turn on the trusty Wylde magic. As smart and strong-willed as she is beautiful, Clarke Webber isn’t swayed by my witty banter or charming good looks. And when she realizes who I am and the fame that comes along with it, she likes me even less. Thankfully, I’m always up for a challenge. The more I get to know about her, the more I know my playboy days are behind me.
If I’m going to capture Clarke’s heart, it’s time to be a lot less Wylde, and a lot more Aaron.

May 12: The Rival Roomies by Piper Rayne
I’ve really been enjoying this series – each book does stand alone, but features a core group of friends that play significant roles in the story. Rayne mixes humor and touches of angst to make for interesting reads, and I’ve been anticipating this book since the first in the series because this couple has a lot of potential. My ARC just hit my Kindle, so I’ll be posting a review next week!
I’ve loved him from afar.
Though most times he’s only a foot away.
I’m smart enough to know he’ll never be anyone’s forever.
He checks all the bad boy boxes. Tattoos. Check. Motorcycle. Check. Chip on his shoulder. Check check.
If he wasn’t my neighbor and friend I may have thrown myself at him. Okay, yeah. I wouldn’t. Because guys like Dylan don’t want a woman who writes kid’s math textbooks under him in bed. Instead, I pathetically savor morsels of moments where I have his sole attention.
That was until his archenemy moved in with me. Now suddenly, Dylan’s moving in too and warning off the first guy in a long time who’s showing me interest. Could he finally see me as more than a friend, or am I just a prize to win and show off to his enemy?

May 12: Sure Shot by Sarina Bowen
I don’t have an ARC of this one, so you won’t be getting a review from me next week, but I’ve been reading a lot more sports romance recently and I would love to get caught up on the series. I’ve read and enjoyed Bowen’s work before, so I’m sure it’s going to be great.
On the eve of her thirtieth birthday, sports agent Bess Beringer is ready to make some changes. Armed with a five-year plan—indexed and color coded—she’ll tackle her personal life with the same zeal that she brings to her successful agency.
A big, tall, ripped hunk of hockey player who’s just been traded to the Brooklyn Bruisers is not a part of that plan. Mark “Tank” Tankiewicz has a lot of baggage. He’s a ride-or-die loner with a bad reputation. He’s on the rebound. He’s also the sexiest thing on two legs, and for some crazy reason it’s Bess that he wants.
She knows better. But then she falls stupid in love with him anyway. And for a while it seems like maybe he’ll do the same.
Until she asks him for the one thing he can never give her…

May 14: The Modern Gentleman by Meghan Quinn
I love Meghan Quinn’s writing (especially the rom coms!) and this blurb sounds so, so good! The ARC just hit my Kindle, so I’ll be reading it very soon and I cannot wait! It appears to be a standalone, so if you haven’t checked out Quinn’s work before, this is a great place to start.
Have you ever hit rock bottom?
I embarrassingly have.
It’s why I’m wearing my girl’s decorative scarf over my head, clutching her lady drink to my chest, and singing ever so softly to Joni Mitchell while swaying back and forth.
This is what therapists refer to as LOSING IT.
Oldest story in the book: boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, boy screws up MASSIVELY, girl tells boy to suffocate in the fruits of his very own unborn children.
Heard it before? I’m sure you have.
So what’s so different about this story? Well, it’s about me, The Modern Gentleman, New York City’s top advice columnist, and my rather ungraceful downfall from my pristinely polished pedestal.
It’s about a girl I met who threw all my proven theories to the wind and left me awkward, needy, and absolutely head-over-wingtipped shoes in love.
This is a story about June Lacy and how she single-handedly dismantled The Modern Gentleman.

May 14: Black Tangled Heart by Samantha Young
Samantha Young is one of those authors who has been on my radar for a while, but I’ve never checked out her work (I know, I know – I even preordered her co-write with Kristen Callihan, Outmatched, and it’s still sitting on my Kindle, waiting for me to read it). I’ve been hearing really good things about this one, so I may just have to squeeze it into my reading schedule at some point.
The New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series and As Dust Dances delivers a dark, sexy and emotional standalone romance about love, revenge, and surviving both.
To my siblings, Jane was a friend. A pseudo-sister, the girl we grew up with.
To me? She was everything.
Our passion consumed us.
When our world fell apart, I thought our love would be the thing that held us together.
She was the love of my life. But she abandoned me when I needed her most.
And I’ll never forgive her.
For years I’ve been planning my revenge against the people who took everything from me.
Jane won’t be an exception. I’m coming for her.
She knows it.
She says she wants to help me serve my version of justice on the people who hurt me.
I’ll let her.
She probably thinks it will save her from me.

May 15: Beautifully Cruel by J.T. Geissinger
Geissinger writes everything from light rom coms to intense romantic suspense, and she does it well. So… I have absolutely no idea what to expect from Beautifully Cruel, but I’m definitely looking forward to it!!!! This one was originally supposed to release in April but is now set to go live next week. I think I’m receiving an ARC, so I’ll let you know how it goes once the book releases!
1) Having the highest rank in a dominance hierarchy
2) The most powerful man in a group
3) Liam Black
He was a stranger to me, a dark and dangerous presence who materialized from the shadows one rainy night to save me from a vicious attack. I didn’t know his name or where he was from. All I knew was that the only place I’d ever felt safe was in his arms.
But safety is an illusion.
And not every savior is a hero.
And—as I’d soon find out—having an alpha save your life comes with a price.
Liam Black wanted something from me in return.

May 15: The Two of Us by Kennedy Fox
I’ve been meaning to check out Kennedy Fox’s work, and I’ve got to admit, I’m intrigued by this one! Not everyone wants to read about the pandemic, and I totally get that, but the premise of two opposites stuck in a cabin together sounds… pretty great! I read Kylie Scott/Audrey Carlan’s Love Under Quarantine last week, and the topic was treated with respect and didn’t interfere with my enjoyment of the love story, so I’m hoping this one plays out in a similar way.
What do you do when the entire nation is on lockdown?
If you’re an heiress to a billion-dollar fashion company, then you quarantine in a glamorous cabin and finish your final semester of NYU online. The best way to focus on her upcoming valedictorian honor is away from her family, classmates, and the paparazzi. Cameron St. James is ready to get out of the big city and head Upstate for seclusion, despite her parent’s pleas to stay home.
What do you do when a pandemic is sweeping the world?
If you’re barely making ends meet, then you isolate yourself in your best friend’s mountain cabin with breathtaking views and no neighbors for miles. It’s the perfect safe place away from three roommates who don’t take the life-threatening epidemic seriously. Elijah Ross is ready to work remotely and focus on his next big promotion, assuming he’ll still have a job after this.
What happens when things don’t go as planned, and you’re stuck with the one person you dislike the most?
You improvise and do whatever it takes to avoid each other, though it proves to be impossible. The cold evenings alone turn into movie and popcorn nights together by the fireplace. Days turn into weeks, and eventually, more than just a friendship blossoms. As the unknown haunts them, they lean on one another for comfort—until someone pops their safety bubble and threatens everything.
The Two of Us is an enemies to lovers, brother’s best friend standalone romance set in the current affairs of history in the making. Though the character’s storyline is fiction, the virus is very real, and we’ve made sure to be sensitive on this topic.
