⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ REVIEW: Secret Plunge by Jasmin Miller

I love Jasmin Miller’s brand of sweet and sexy romances, so this novella is a nice little addition to her Kings of the Water series. It’s a quick read, wasting no time getting right into the action as our couple starts a family in an unexpected way – meeting as strangers, sharing a steamy night, and then getting to know each other as they come to terms with an unexpected pregnancy. I loved the addition of texts and phone calls sprinkled throughout, playing up the emotional connection even though things had already taken a turn for the steamy. The only place where this really fumbled for me was the handling of a secret – and, no, it’s not a secret baby – which changed my opinion of the heroine and made it somewhat difficult to connect to her.

The story follows Harper, a woman who finds herself divorced and jobless at 24. When a friend convinces her that she should ring in the New Year with a bang, Harper acts out of character and spends a steamy night with a stranger. It’s a great night that’s a welcome reprieve from the complications of her life… but doesn’t come without its consequences. Suddenly, these two strangers are a whole lot more to each other, and they’ve got to navigate an unexpected pregnancy as well as the attraction that still simmers between them.

This definitely isn’t the type of trope I typically seek out – I’ll read it from an author I know and trust (like Miller), but won’t go looking for it. That being said, I appreciated how well everything is handled – these two are upfront and honest about what they are to each other, and it’s a somewhat awkward transition from strangers to lovers to coparents to more, as it should be. There’s a level of sweetness to the story that you don’t often find in romances where the relationship starts with a one night stand, and a significant focus on the baby and family. I can’t call this one 5 stars because of my lack of connection to the heroine, but it makes a solid addition to the series and I can’t wait to see what’s next. I received an ARC via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review of this sweet, sexy romance.

If you haven’t read Fresh Meet, the first book in the Kings of the Water series, Secret Plunge will easily read as a standalone, but I’ve got my review here.
