⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ REVIEW: Wine Hard Baby by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

A rom com that leans into the comedy, this light and fun read flies by. It’s got all the quirky humor we know and love from Mimi Jean, as well as a couple who make an interesting pair. While I do have some issues with the romance – the miscommunication definitely makes it difficult to feel the love at times – it’s a playful, fun read.

The story follows Camila, a woman from an uber religious family. They expect her to marry someone from within the faith, even going so far as to arrange a marriage for her. But Camila doesn’t really want a buttoned up guy chosen by her parents; she’s attracted to one specific cowboy… though she has an interesting way of showing it. Jed doesn’t quite know what to think of Camila – he’s seen the way she looks at him, but she’s also called him trailer trash and made it clear she’d never date him. As these two continue to have a series of miscommunications, neither one is entirely clear on how the other feels.

I loved all of the comedy in this and was glad we got to hear both sides of the story, because actions definitely speak louder than words with this couple. Both Jed and Camila say things that they don’t really mean, pushing the other away when all they want to do is pull them closer. It’s a slow burn that focuses much more on the humor than the romance, though it is a constant presence. This is dialogue-heavy with plenty of the funny moments. This sits somewhere between 3 and 4 stars for me – I definitely enjoyed the light, easy feel to the story, but I also wanted some more romantic vibes. Though I liked Jed a lot, it’s not always easy to tell how he feels, and Camila is extremely abrasive at times. I would say that if you’re going into this one expecting a funny, easy read then you won’t be disappointed – just don’t plan on the romance being fully developed. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review of this funny book.

BLURB:

From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes an Enemies-to-Lovers Romantic Comedy.

CAUTION: CONTAINS HOT COWBOY. Do not mix with wine. Avoid watching him do shirtless labor on hot days.

SIDE EFFECTS MAY INCLUDE: Feeling of extreme temptation, excessive drooling over his abs, elevated heart rate, and loss of coherent thoughts when in his presence.

My name is Camila Clark. And that sexy cowboy right there? The one with the devilish smile, twinkling brown eyes, and tattoos on his muscular arms? He’s Jed, the guy I turned down flat back in Texas. He just showed up here in Oregon at the winery where I work.

The question is why?

Not that it really matters. I have my reasons for staying away from all that manly temptation. Reasons he can’t possibly understand but seems determined to punish me for.

But the more I fight him, the more I learn about this mysterious, hot-as-hell cowboy. I just don’t know how much longer I can keep pretending to hate him.

The problem is, I’m technically engaged to a guy I’ve never met.
