There’s some seriously great banter and chemistry in this strangers to lovers romance. It sparks off the page and combusts during the steamy scenes. I love a grumpy hero, and this moody, broody biker definitely qualifies. Ford has spent most of his life avoiding human interaction, so he has no idea what to do with himself when a single mom and her vivacious daughter knock him off his feet. The family moments were great and there’s no denying the physical connection these two share. My only real complaint is that it’s the kind of romance where the love is overshadowed by the lust (more on that in a minute).

The story follows Crawford/Ford, a man who seeks out isolation. He’s happy with his work as a motorcycle mechanic and doesn’t feel like he needs anything more in his life. When he meets single mom Keegan and her adorable daughter, that all changes in the blink of an eye. Keegan throws him off-balance, and the sparks that fly between them are undeniable. Their bickering is a special kind of foreplay, so it’s not long before they’re burning up the sheets. But neither one is looking to put their heart on the line, and that’s a big problem.

I really enjoyed this one – the chemistry is definitely there, and it’s easy to feel the lust. I loved all of the dialogue, which makes this read very quickly. What holds me back from calling this a 5-star read is a distinct lack of the feels; as in, the physical connection was obvious but the emotional one was not. These two have a friends with benefits type relationship for much longer than I would’ve liked, so the warm and fuzzy feelings weren’t really there for me. There’s no denying that the steamy scenes will make you fan yourself (Ford is a VERY intense man, I’ll say that), but I wanted more than that. I also didn’t feel like there was enough groveling at the end. Ford’s actions would’ve been more forgivable if a child had not been involved, but… man, I would not have let him back in that easily. Neither issue made a significant dent in my enjoyment of the book, but they do mean that I can’t call this a 5-star read. Rae’s writing is excellent and showcased in the quick verbal exchanges that jump off the page, so I’m definitely looking forward to more from her in the future.
