What a mysterious, seductive read! The start of a tempting new trilogy (yes, this ends on a major CLIFFHANGER), A Reckless Note will get you hooked on this love story. It’s sexy and compelling, filled with secrets that unravel slowly, and centered around a relationship that I want more of. This installment is told exclusively from the heroine’s perspective, and while I was frustrated by not knowing our hero’s thoughts, I also understand the reasoning. I enjoyed it from start to finish, but there are also a couple of elements to the story that I think might be a problem for me in future installments (more on that in a minute).
The story follows Aria and Kace, two people who meet at an auction event. Something sparks between them immediately, but Kace – a bad boy violinist – seems to be hot and cold. One minute he’s pursuing Aria, the next he retreats. Secrets surround them both, and it should be a warning to Aria that starting something is a bad idea – but she just can’t seem to make herself stop wanting this sexy musician.
This is definitely a solid start to Aria and Kace’s story, with a secretive vibe and a hint that there’s trouble on the horizon. I liked both of the characters and their chemistry was great – plus, the steamy scenes heat up the pages. I struggled with not having Kace’s perspective, but I also understand why Jones didn’t include it in this installment. Hopefully we’ll hear more about his motivations in the next book, because he seems to be a complex and likable hero who is fighting some demons. That being said, there are a couple of elements that I’m wary of. I suspect there’s going to be some OW drama down the road, which is hinted at here – not my favorite type of conflict. Kace also likes to maintain control in the bedroom, and I think that’s likely to be a major component of future books. Again, just not my favorite dynamic. I’m definitely hooked on the relationship but also wary of where it’s going next. This could be something really great, and that cliffhanger just stirred up a whole lot of trouble.
