Suspenseful and steamy with a capital S, this friends to lovers romance will definitely keep your heart racing. I don’t think I’ve read a friends to lovers romance from this author before, and it added a freshness to a story that’s – let’s be honest – exactly what I expected it to be. Snow’s got a recipe that works for her and this certainly doesn’t break the mold, but I did love the inclusion of the shared history and connection from the start. It’s not so much about these two falling for each other as it is them resisting the attraction that’s always been there, and I really enjoyed that element of the story. And it’s still got the action, the HEAT (whoa boy, was there heat), the intensity, and the alpha hero that I’ve come to expect from the author.
The story follows Tory, a dancer who has returned home following an injury. Tory’s been so focused on her career over the past several years that she hasn’t stopped to think about what she wants out of life. When Tory runs into Quinn, the guy she crushed on every summer as a teen, she realizes just how much she’s missed him. The small age gap that kept them apart in their youth is no longer a barrier, and now these two have some very adult thoughts about each other. But Tory’s only supposed to be in town while she recovers and Quinn’s got some personal drama going on, so leaving the friend zone seems like a bad idea.
Yes, I definitely found the story to be predictable and, while shorter than some of her others, it’s still too long. But I did love the tension between these two and the obvious chemistry there. Both Tory and Quinn are easy to like, and the depth of their feelings made it easy to root for them. It’s a slow burn to SIZZLE for sure, with a lot of intense steam in the back half. Quinn is 100% alpha but still very lovable, and his protective side was endearing. If you’re looking for a suspenseful, steamy, small town romance, this is certainly worth your time. It’s neither the best nor the worst that I’ve read by the author, and a satisfying read overall. I received a free copy via Give Me Books and am voluntarily leaving a review of this action-packed romance.
