WEEKLY WRAP-UP: September 18th

What a great release week! While not everything was a total winner, I read a few outstanding books this week, and a few more that were a lot of fun. The vibe was definitely light and sexy, with several low angst reads topping the list. Two excellent books from two of my favorite authors (Flirting with 40 and Loathe Thy Neighbor) are definite contenders for my best of the month list, while another (Double Dog Dare You) makes me want to read more from an author who is still somewhat new to me.

If you read my Teaser Tuesday post (found here), you know that there are plenty more exciting books on the way next week. I’ll have reviews going up throughout the week!

If you missed any of this week’s reviews, I’ve got the blurb and rating for each below. There’s also a link to this week’s Deals and Steals list.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ LOVED it

Don’t fall for your enemy…especially when he’s your new roommate.

Dean Evans is the worst.

Not only does the devil in disguise steal my pie on a regular basis, he also lives in the apartment right. Next. Door.

I see him all the time. At the mailboxes. In the elevator.

Every single morning.

It’s exhausting because he’s exhausting.

Now, after setting his apartment on fire, he’s my roommate…and he’s the worst at that too.

I don’t know what possessed me to let him stay with me. Pity, perhaps?

I do know that I won’t be falling for his charm.

Or that panty-dropping smirk.

His quick wit.

That body he works so hard for.

Nope. Not falling for any of it…least of all him.

There might be a fine line between love and hate, but I know exactly where I stand.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely LOVED this

An all new flirty, lighthearted, standalone romance by New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg guaranteed to make you swoon.

Blakely Foxx is having one of those years.

Her divorce may have been finalized a few months ago, but her ex is already engaged to someone half her age. Her younger boss is determined to sabotage her chance at getting the promotion she rightly deserves. And to make matters worse, she’s closing in on the big 4-0. There isn’t enough wine or ice cream in the world to convince her things will turn around.

When Blakely meets Slade Henderson, she’s left wondering why an early-thirties, hotter than hell, cardiothoracic surgeon would take an interest in her.

She’s been warned that he’ll break her heart, but she’s willing to take the chance. Not only is he helping her get that promotion, but in the process, he’s encouraging her to find the parts of herself she’s lost over the past few years.

Slade shows her that good guys really do exist, but who knew the hardest part about turning forty would be realizing the man you thought was a rebound, is actually your happily ever after?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Soapy fun

If any of my over-protective brothers ask, I’m pregnant via immaculate conception. Otherwise, the baby I’m carrying could be the death of one hot billionaire…

Jo

After a succession of relationships bad enough to set a Guinness World Record, running into a ruggedly handsome billionaire feels like a sign. Edgar is from out of town, mesmerizing, and his voice reminds me of Louisiana heat. Just listening to him makes my toes curl. So I throw aside all caution and spend the hottest night of my life in his bed, knowing we’ll never see each other again.

Until a positive pregnancy test brings him back into my life. And now he only wants to marry me to do right by the baby, but here’s the thing…

I’ll never settle. I want what my parents have: true love. Nothing–not even the electric chemistry that crackles every time Edgar and I are together–will deter me from that goal.

Edgar

Love is like alcohol. It destroys clarity and impairs judgment. I’ve seen my parents making one bad decision after another in the name of love, destroying our family.

But Jo wants love before she’ll marry me. So I’ll approximate it. Unlike my father, I’ll make sure my child knows she’s cherished (contrary to what Jo thinks, I know it’s a girl). I’m too sensible to fall in love and disrupt my already well-ordered life, even though every second I spend with her feels like skydiving without a parachute…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Quick and sexy

Quinn

One simple text message can change everything. I found that out the hard way. One minute I’m complaining about a horrible picture of a guy’s you-know-what, and the next, I’m having conversations with a stranger. A gorgeous, rebel of a man who makes my heart skip a beat and does a number on my panties.

The only problem is we’re not looking for the same things in life. I want stability and a family, while he always has his eye out for the next good time.

Royce

She may literally be the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met. Funny, it all started with an accidental text message. About unwanted male member photos, actually, and from that moment, I was hooked. She’s the perfect woman really, except for one tiny little flaw. She’s looking for the one thing that makes me want to run for the door. Forever.

Yet, somehow, I can’t seem to let her go. She might be the one dare I actually fail.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Quick and sexy

A sexy new friends-to-lovers standalone!
Let me list the reasons why dating the sexy, charming pro hockey star is a bad idea:
1. He’s one of my closest friends
2. All our friends are friends
3. The wounds I’ve got from past relationships go deep. And so do his.
We’re both devoutly single — it’s just safer for the heart that way. But there’s no reason not to bid on the gorgeous, clever athlete at the charity auction this weekend. If I win, it’ll be a “friendsdate.”
And I do win.
I win him big.
And hard.
And all night long.

The trouble is . . . what happens in the morning?

Thanks For Last Night is a standalone romance in The Guy Who Got Away series. The other titles are Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend and The What If Guy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sexy but not satisfying

I have a problem.

Potential problem?

I’m not really sure. Here’s the deal.

There’s this girl—isn’t that how it always starts?—and her name is Mollie. I like her. I mean really like her. I hope that doesn’t make me seem less manly than my professional hockey player persona implies. But here’s the issue—she’s my best friend. The one person I can count on for everything, who’s been there with me for all the moments, big and small.

When Mollie shows up at my door, travel weary and scared following an incident with an ex, my instinct to protect her goes into overdrive. It’s then that I know she’s more than just my best friend and the skates are swept out from under me when I find out she feels the same way.

Our transition from friends to lovers to potentially something more is seamless, the Arizona Vengeance is back on the ice looking for a repeat championship, and my life has never been better. Just when I think I’ve got it all figured out, the realities of us both having careers which keep us on the road put our blossoming relationship on ice.

It feels like the game just went into overtime and I’m on the verge of either the biggest win or most disappointing loss of my life. And losing is never an option.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Just okay

Big, burly, and definitely not my new best friend.
Benji is the current obstacle standing in my way.
Not that I mind.
Who said your brother’s best friend had to be off-limits, anyway?

Rich chick waltzing into town buying up businesses like candy.
I hear the whispers about me.
They’re not wrong. Just not exactly right, either.

Benji doesn’t see it that way, though. He puffs his chest out when I walk in—a very muscular chest, might I add—and lets me know in no uncertain terms that I’m not welcome on his turf.

I’m just here to find my brother, who left without even saying goodbye.
But Sawyer? Nowhere to be seen.

Great.

I have no choice but to stay here and wait, and Benji has no choice but to humor me.
My brother’s best friend has a funny definition of humor, though.
Not so much ha-ha as hate you forever.

Pretty soon, Benji’s guard-dog act starts to crumble and I catch a glimpse of the man underneath.
The rugged, strong man who makes my heart thump and my core clench.
The man with a kiss to bring me to my knees.
The man who might just crack my heart wide open…

…but when my brother finally returns, our budding romance could fall apart before it even begins.

Won’t Miss You is a stand-alone brother’s best friend romance with a guaranteed happy ending and absolutely zero cheating.
