WEEKLY WRAP-UP: October 30th

It was a quiet week for new releases, but I’ll take quality over quantity any day! While not all of this week’s releases were winners, two of them made my Best of October list (A Very Bossy Christmas and Happily Letter After), one was a very devourable read (I Just Need You), and another was steamy fun (My Big, Fat, Fake Honeymoon).

If you read my Teaser Tuesday post (found here), you know that next week is another quiet release week because of the election. No worries, I’m still reading! I’ll be getting ahead on November ARCs, checking out a few recent releases that I haven’t had a chance to read yet, and seeing what else pops up on my radar.

If you missed any of this week’s reviews, I’ve got the blurb and rating for each below. There’s also a link to this week’s Deals and Steals list.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely LOVED this

What’s the actual last thing you’d ever want your executive assistant to see you doing the morning after you had hot, drunk, angry sex with her in a terrible hotel room? Dancing around your terrible hotel room to “Come and Get Your Love” like Star-Lord in 𝐺𝑢𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐺𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑥𝑦—naked? Yeah. Me too.

And yet, here we are.

This isn’t even the most unprofessional thing that’s happened between us in the past couple of weeks.

The first was when I agreed to let her have Christmas Day off, but only if she goes with me to three family gatherings as my fake girlfriend.

The second was when she caught me belting out a Christmas song on stage in the awful hotel bar.

The third was the hot, drunk, angry sex that followed, but I do not regret it.

And she hasn’t even found out the real reason I need her by my side this holiday season.

I need to pull it together before I do the dumbest, most unprofessional thing of all—fall head over heels in love with the only assistant who’s lasted more than a month at the job and claims to hate me and my moods more than she hates eggnog.

𝐴𝑛𝑑 𝐼’𝑣𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑒𝑛 ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑚𝑢𝑐ℎ 𝑠ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑠 𝑒𝑔𝑔𝑛𝑜𝑔.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Heartwarming slow burn

From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes a love story about taking chances and the surprises that come with them.

My love story all started with a letter.

Only it wasn’t from the man I’d eventually fall in love with. It was from his daughter. A sweet little girl named Birdie Maxwell who’d written to the magazine that I worked for.

You see, once a year my employer fulfilled a few wishes for readers. Only that column didn’t start up again for months.

So I fulfilled some of her wishes myself. It was harmless…so I thought. Until one day I took things too far.

While anonymously granting yet another of Birdie’s wishes, I got a look at her father. Her devastatingly handsome, single dad father.

I should have stopped playing fairy godmother then. I should have left well enough alone. But I just couldn’t help myself. I had a connection to this girl. One that had me acting irrationally.

Like when I showed up on their doorstep.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Devourable

He’s there to protect her…not fall for her.

Kresley
Studying abroad was my chance to gain independence away from my privileged life in California. But, when there’s a kidnapping attempt on my life, I’m forced to return home to finish college. I just never expected to get stuck with a pompous, know-it-all bodyguard who watches my every move with nothing but disdain. One whose good looks don’t soften the cold, impenetrable wall he wears like armor.

Tristan
I pride myself on being a professional and taking my job as a bodyguard seriously. But, nothing could prepare me for the high maintenance, rich girl I’m hired to protect. She’s got a smart mouth, is hell bent on pushing my buttons, and doesn’t take the threats against her seriously. And despite the nightmares that plague her dreams, or the fact that I’m the only one who knows about them, I’m not there to befriend her. I’m there to protect her…no matter how much she intrigues me.

Jabs will be exchanged, glares will become the norm, jealousy will rear its ugly head, and sparks…well those damn things will inevitably fly. But will it all come with a dangerous price?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Steamy and light

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride?
Try always the florist.

This high-profile wedding gig comes with a dreamy week in paradise.
The sun, sand, and sea will make the hard work worth it.
Or so I thought until that dream becomes a nightmare.

When an old nemesis shows up, my mouth gets me in trouble, and suddenly, I’m pretending to be on my honeymoon. My “groom” is even worse.

Lorenzo Toscani.
The love ‘em and leave ‘em bad boy chef I’ve been warned about steps in to save the day.
He’s romance and heat, excitement and adventure, and all the bad decisions.
But I’ve never let that stop me before, so why start now?

Maybe this week could be the start of something special—especially when playing newlyweds feels so real.
Or is it just a case of what happens in paradise, stays in paradise?

Only one way to find out… let’s fake this big, fat honeymoon!

My Big Fat Fake Honeymoon is a full-length romance with a happily ever after and no cliffhanger. It can be read as a standalone.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Secrets and lies

Being a highly skilled operative for a company like Jameson Force Security is exhilarating and important work…until it comes time to date. I like to keep my profession under wraps for a number of reasons. Some of what we do is top secret, most of what we do is dangerous, and more than one woman has tried to latch onto me because she was more enamored with what I do than who Cage Murdock really is. And since I’m more of a ‘here for the night’ than a ‘here for forever’ kind of guy, what’s the harm in a little white lie about my job?

My harmless deceit has never failed me. Until now. Because I met the most amazing woman and did the unthinkable. I married her. And now my beautiful, unsuspecting, probably-going-to-leave-my-sorry-behind-when-she-finds-out-the-truth wife doesn’t know that I’m not a used car salesman like I told her when we met.

As it typically does with lies, the truth is about to come out in a big way when Jaime unwittingly gets herself mixed up with some unsavory characters and I, along with the team at Jameson, have to intervene. Now I need to save my girl and hope I can save my marriage too. Let’s just say I have some serious explaining to do.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ More trick than treat

It’s hard to miss your boyfriend when he’s standing right next to you being a sarcastic nimrod. I have a temper and he has an attitude. Our antics inside and outside the bedroom are off the charts. Half the time we’re giving each other a hard time just to get to the good times.

Things get more complicated when he’s all those things and dead as well.

Evan’s a newly formed ghost, and I’m Sammi, the girlfriend whose lady bits are accused of being so strong they shot him off a cliff.

Our new life is tinged with pirates, mermaids, undead carjackers who look like they should be on the set of a horror movie, and a nefarious ghost that has it out for me.

The worst part? We have to figure it all out before Evan goes ghost. For good this time.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: November Releases

Not gonna lie… November is looking like a very weird release month! Most authors are avoiding Election Week and Thanksgiving, so there are a couple of weeks that you’ll be able to catch up on your reading backlog, and a couple of release days where you might just need to take a “sick day” to fit all of your reading in. There’s also an interesting mix of regular and holiday releases, with plenty of Christmas goodness to keep you warm on a cold winter’s night.

It can be incredibly difficult to keep track of all of the new releases each month, so I’ve put together a calendar to help you manage your TBR. The following books are the ones that are on my radar – I’ll be reviewing MANY of these throughout the month, so keep an eye out for new reviews! If I know for sure that I’ll be reviewing a book, then I’ve indicated that as well. This month is a little different in that regard, since I’m trying to keep things flexible on a few books I’m undecided about.

I’ve got the anticipated release date, blurb, and preorder links when available for each of the new romances that have caught my eye so far. View the calendar here.
