WEEKLY WRAP-UP: November 20th

Not gonna lie, this was a very mixed week! I read a rom com that had me smiling from start to finish (Hard Love), a few solid reads (Lost Without You and Home for Christmas), and then a couple that weren’t as good as I was hoping. There were also a few other new releases that I had my eye on but ultimately decided were too problematic for me. So, this week was kind of all over the place. The good news? I also read a few December releases that are just the tip of the iceberg in a release month that’s looking VERY strong.

If you read my Teaser Tuesday post (found here), you know that there are plenty more exciting books on the way next week. I’ll have reviews going up throughout the week!

If you missed any of this week’s reviews, I’ve got the blurb and rating for each below. There’s also a link to my list of 15 Workplace Romances and this week’s Deals and Steals list.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ So much fun

“HARD TO LOVE.”

Hard head. Bad attitude. Terrible boyfriend. That’s what my exes have said about me—but I wasn’t serious about any of them, so what do I care what rumors they spread? What I need is to be left alone; by the press, by the paparazzi, and by women.

Too bad I’m about to be surrounded by them for the weekend. My obnoxious, matchmaking brother is getting married, and he’s doing his damndest to find me a wedding date…

“HARD TO FIND.”

That’s what they say about good men—they’re hard to find. Not that when I find one, I’ll be the type he’s looking for; too nice, too ordinary, too boring.

My cousin is getting married, and her fiancé insists on throwing me at his brother. Cold, uncaring professional football player Tripp Wallace would never look twice at a woman like me. Too bad for both of us, I was wrong…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Serious and emotional

Avery

Opening a law firm isn’t at all what I thought it would be. The landlord is arrogant and irritating. Despite his sexy voice and smooth demeanor, I want to fight him at every turn. Everything with him is a battle–a battle I intend to win. After all, I’m an attorney who never backs down. But when he needs my help, I can’t possibly refuse. Who could? Thrown into a role he knows nothing about can’t be easy.

Beneath his gruff nature is a broken man who needs to be put back together. The last thing I will ever do is let someone destroy him more.

Griffin

A cheating fiancée and a backstabbing best friend are not the worst of my problems. When my brother dies, I’m thrust into the life of a single parent. In over my head, I’m forced to seek help from the lawyer who fights me every chance she can. Avery Arrington is a smart-mouthed, feisty woman, who can win my case. Powerful, intelligent, and sexy, I want her in ways I’ve sworn off for good.

But right now, it’s all about my nephew. He’s my top priority–the only thing that matters. Now, I have to put all of my faith and hope in Avery to save me—save us. I rarely trust anyone. But the truth is, without Avery, I’d be lost.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Quick and cozy

When coming home means finding love again…

Nothing says Merry Christmas like impending divorce. *eye roll*
It would be great to ignore the season altogether until Ethan and I officially end things on December 31st.

But before we can sign the final papers, I need to make it through Christmas week back in my hometown in Grandma’s house with the man I thought I’d spend the rest of my life with.

It’s far from ideal.

Yet, the longer we’re forced to cohabitate, the harder it is to ignore that what drew us together still exists.

Our marriage is on the brink of divorce because we thought we wanted different things, but maybe our Christmas miracle is getting a second chance by finally coming home.

Fans of Robyn Carr and Susan Mallery will be swept away by Home for Christmas, a small town, second-chance standalone holiday romance. It’s the perfect Christmas read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mixed feelings

Working for America’s hottest rock band should be a dream come true for Phoebe Halstead.

And it would be, if it wasn’t for lead singer, Levi Hunter.

Tortured… Brooding… Broken. He’s everything she should stay away from.

Unfortunately for Phoebe, she’s exactly the kind of girl Levi needs. The light to his dark. The calm to his storm.

He wants to be worthy of her; she knows he’ll never change.

Everyone knows the greatest love stories end one of two ways:
… with a happily-ever-after or in heartache and ruin.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Disappointing

From the moment Julie sees her best friend, Gavin, in the airport, it’s like no time at all has gone by instead of months and months. No matter how long they’ve been apart, their relationship has always been steady, comfortable, and decidedly just friends. Even though their meddling parents have hung what seems like unlimited amounts of mistletoe everywhere she goes this holiday season, Julie knows some things will never change.

Gavin is well-aware his family’s wanted him and Julie to get together since forever, even though he’s been friend-zoned since they could talk—and he’s been happy to play that role. After all, as the new starting quarterback for the San Antonio Mustangs, he’s got enough on his plate without adding romance to the mix.

But between playing elves in the holiday bazaar to nights spent one-on-one watching rom-coms or soaking in their town’s hot springs, suddenly the “reverse parent trap” they’ve fallen into is actually starting to work. But this could be one scheme where letting themselves get trapped might be way too dangerous.

Love at the Office: 15 Workplace Romances

With a touch of the forbidden and plenty of sexual tension, office romances can make for some great reads. Whether the relationship is boss/assistant, competitors, or just someone trying to do their job, this type of dynamic can stir up a lot of trouble and keep things interesting. I love the depth that comes from these couples spending so much time together and really getting to know each other well.

The 15 romances on this list each have different vibes and storylines, but they all feature couples who spend much of their time working together. Some are light, others are angsty, but they’re all engrossing reads. They’ve each received a 5-star rating from me in the past, so you know that I loved them. Check out the complete list here.
