⭐️⭐️ REVIEW: My Wicked Heart by T.L. Smith

Please note: This is the second half of a duet, which needs to be read in order. You can find my 4-star review of My Beautiful Poison here.

This only gets a second star from me because I did legitimately like the first book in the duet, but… talk about a hot mess. So disappointing. The first book in this dark and twisty duet held my attention from start to finish, and I ended up devouring it in one sitting. I wasn’t sure that I loved every bit of it, but there was some great potential in the relationship, and the author’s writing style is just so, so easy to binge. This half of the duet? If you threw every trope or twist that I hate into one book and called it a romance, this is what you’d get.

The story picks up right where the last one left off, so it’s imperative that you read the books in order. This one gets much darker and has a lot more angst. I won’t spoil the main storyline, but I need to spoil a few elements so that I can explain what DIDN’T work for me, so fair warning. There’s an extended separation that leads to the relationship disintegrating, and everything that I liked about it completely evaporated. Add in some OM drama (with an explicit scene), and some OW drama (that’s even more problematic), and this fell apart for me. And I’m not even going to go into the other stuff that didn’t work.

I don’t see myself ever reading another book by this author, it was that disappointing. I appreciated receiving an early copy (and am voluntarily leaving a review), but this was not good.

Blurb:

He’s an ex-convict.
I am the prized daughter of a family known for their name.
We always knew it couldn’t work, but that didn’t mean we wouldn’t try.
But when we did, it was all torn apart.
He was locked away.
And I was helpless to stop the mass destruction that followed.
He was wicked to my heart.
And just like poison, the effects can be dangerous.
