Light and funny with touches of emotion throughout, this is rock star romance done a little differently. Our hero might have a questionable relationship history, but he knows a good thing when he sees it. Linx is kind, determined, and loving, yet still gives off enough of a rock star vibe to make this feel true to the trope – and he’s ready for whatever our heroine has to offer. Fans of the author’s hysterical Mile High Matched series will appreciate the appearances by some of the most beloved characters, but this is a true series starter that will easily read as a standalone.
The story follows Becca, a therapist in need of a break for her own mental health. It’s beyond stressful to deal with other people’s problems every day, so she’s taking a 6-month vacation to find the fun again. While working at a bar, Becca encounters Linx, the rock star she crushed on years ago. She’s a huge fan of his music and even followed the band for awhile, but that was all in her former carefree life. Linx is feeling a little lost himself, so the two form an immediate bond. And though Becca believes they’re starting up an easy, no stress, vacation fling, it’s not long before it feels like something altogether different.
I’ve gotta say, I interpreted the blurb to mean that this would lead with the heat before shifting into the emotion, and I was somewhat hesitant to dive in. I love the author’s rom coms, but that’s not usually my favorite kind of storyline. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this is actually a slow burn of sorts, because a series of increasingly outlandish interruptions get in the way. It leads with the comedy before shifting into the emotion, and that made this a much lighter, more playful read. This took a little while to hook me in, partly because it didn’t quite match the blurb and partly because I wasn’t sure that Linx would grow on me (he definitely did), but I really enjoyed it once I settled in. It’s the kind of rom com that has some weight to it, and I’m very curious to see where the series heads next. I received an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this rock star romance.
He’s a rock star.
She’s a waitress.
He’s about to rock her world.
Certified behavioral counselor (and former band groupie) Becca Forrester needs a break. Taking a leave of absence from her job, she moves into the apartment over her parents’ garage, and clinches a gig waitressing at a dive bar known for bringing in big name musicians.
Cedric “Linx” Lincoln is a certified rock star. Bassist for the hugely popular rock band, Dimefront, he’s in Denver while the band is on hiatus a-freaking-gain. He’s looking for something—anything—to keep him occupied until they can all get back to making music. When he saunters into his friend’s bar, he finds the perfect diversion.
Becca’s presence is a breath of fresh air. The sizzle she ignites in him is precisely what he needs. Bonus: no-stress, no-strings hookups are his specialty. But when things between them tip toward serious, his band implodes, and Becca’s leave of absence ends, they’re forced to decide what their “real” lives should look like. Maybe there’s room for an encore…
