Cover Reveal Central

It was a BIG week for cover reveals, and today brings four that I have been eagerly anticipating. All four are books that I am both very excited and also hesitant to read, for a variety of reasons. I know a lot of bloggers like to keep things positive, but I like to keep it honest, and I’m a little bit worried about all four of these books. Can Mafia King, the middle book in a trilogy, live up to the promise of the first? Will Loring be back on her A-game with her new light, sexy read? Will K.K. Allen’s work be worth the hype? Will Locke break my heart with another problematic playboy romance? Only time will tell! I’m confident that all four of these books will either make my Best of the Month list… or they will really tick me off. Details below!

Releases April 16th

I am a huge fan of Kayley Loring’s work, and A Very Bossy Christmas was one of my top 3 favorite reads of 2020 (it was 100% my favorite rom com of the year), so I’m always excited about her new releases. However, I did NOT like A Very Friendly Valentine’s Day (it was a DNF for me, actually), so I go into The Love Interest with slightly dampened enthusiasm. Personally, I think Loring was trying to write V-Day under a rigid timeline (Valentine’s Day happens once a year, lol) while Bossy Christmas was having a ton of success, and her work suffered. That should not be the case with The Love Interest, so I am hoping this will be good. The blurb sounds AWESOME, and it’s got all of the sexy charm that I look for in Loring’s work.

Blurb:

Dear Fiona,

I hope this letter finds you well—and by well, I mean significantly less infuriated than you were yesterday. I’ve wanted to continue our conversation from the night we met, but there are so many things I can’t say or do, now that I’m your professor.

As an anonymous letter writer, I can give you some idea of what I have planned for us, once the year is over. As an author, I can share my work in progress with you. Not for you to critique but to show you how much you mean to me.

When you’re done reading this page, destroy it—and then write me back. Don’t sign the letter. Don’t put a return address on the envelope. Mail it from a random mailbox.

Yours in problem solving,

Me

P.S. I still think you’re wasting your talent on that historical romance novel.

P.P.S. I really wanted to push you up against the door and kiss your beautiful, angry face. I will. One day.

***

Dear Emmett,

Your handwriting is almost as terrible as your mood swings, and it would have been my instinct to destroy that letter even if you hadn’t ordered me to.

If you show me your work in progress, I will critique it.

I am currently still too infuriated to write about all the other feelings I have for you.

Expect another letter soon.

Your problem and your solution,

Me

P.S. I still think an overpaid, overrated, overly handsome bestselling author of thrillers has no business teaching creative writing at a prestigious New York university.

P.P.S. To my great horror, I really wanted you to push me up against that door and kiss my angry face too. I understand now that your appalling way of treating me in class has been overcompensation, but I don’t forgive you for it. I’ll kiss you again anyway. One day.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Before writing steamy romantic comedy novels, Kayley Loring got a BFA in creative writing from a Canadian university and had a fifteen-year career as a screenwriter in Los Angeles (under a different name). She mostly wrote PG-13 family comedies that studios would pay her lots of money for and then never make into movies. In 2017 she decided to move to the Pacific Northwest and write about all the fun stuff that she wasn’t allowed to write about in those PG-13 scripts. Now she’s breathing cleaner air and writing dirtier words. It’s an adjustment she’s happily getting used to.

Releases May 25th

I LOVED Mafia Bride, the first book in this dark, forced marriage, mafia romance trilogy (that’s a mouthful). Things were left in a VERY precarious position at the end of Mafia Bride, so I can’t wait to see where this goes next. I’m really not a fan of trilogies and the second book is typically my least favorite (no falling in love OR happily ever after!), but this story is so complicated that I can see why the author went with three books. I can’t wait to dive in!

Blurb:

Santino is my king. My lover. My husband.

He’s the head of the Cavallo crime family and the moment he choked my vows from me, my life was bound to his.

I’m done fighting my fate, until I hear two rumors, and I’m shaken to the core.

One rumor about the past—that I wasn’t the first bride Santino took.

Another about the future—a new bride is about to be taken.

Changing the old ways is like dousing the flames of hell with tears.

But I married the devil himself, and when I vowed to obey, I lied.

About the Author:
CD Reiss has a long history of aimlessly moving from place to place. She finally settled in Los Angeles where she earned a master’s degree in cinematic writing from USC. After graduation, she ultimately failed to have one line of dialog put on film, but stayed in Hollywood out of spite.

Since screenwriting was going nowhere, she switched to novels. Soon after, luck arrived with a complete set of baggage. She now has over two dozen titles under her belt. Two of those are NY Times Bestsellers and a handful more are USA Today bestsellers. Her audiobooks have won APA Audie Awards and Earphones Awards, swelling her ego to an inhuman size.

She lives with her family, two cats and her long-suffering husband in a small Hollywood house that’s been outfitted with huge, ego-sized doorways.

I’ve been meaning to check out this author’s work, and Over the Moon sounds like the perfect place to start! I love a strangers to lovers romance, and the secrets have me all kinds of intrigued. I really don’t know what to expect from this, and that should make for an interesting read!

Releasing April 8th

I won’t lie, I haven’t been loving this series so far. Locke is a truly talented author who has written some great books (Tangle was one of my Top 19 of 2019), but this series is filled with the tropes I tend to avoid. Reputation earned only 2 stars from me, making it one of my lowest rated books so far this year. Reckless sounds like it might be up my alley, but I am really pretty hesitant about the series at this point, and there are a couple of things in the blurb that could head in the wrong direction. We’ll see. That’s where I’m at with this one. I should be much more excited about it than I am, but here’s hoping it turns the series around.

Blurb:

“How did you get in here?”

That’s not what you want to hear when you’re staring into the sea-green eyes of the hottest man you’ve ever seen. Yet I suppose it’s a fair question, considering I’m an uninvited stranger standing in Boone Mason’s kitchen.

If you think that’s bad—just wait. It gets worse.

This charming and wealthy playboy, who can’t pay his bills on time or find his way to the grocery store (but we all have flaws, right?), is sweet. Confident. Playful. He’s almost perfect. And, to make matters worse …

He’s smitten with me.

I know what you’re thinking. You’re rolling your eyes. You’re assuming this is some opposites attract situation—or that maybe we can be friends who turn into something more.

How can this be a bad thing?

Well, it’s simple. I’m not the kind of girl you fall in love with. Just to be sure, the universe reminds me of that in an unforgettable, in-your-face kind of way.

I might have broken into Boone’s house, but I won’t let him break my heart. I won’t break his either. There’s too much on the line to be that reckless.
