⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ REVIEW: Hard to Lose by K. Bromberg

The first three books in this series were EASY 5-star ratings for me, but I couldn’t get there with this one. It’s still a great book – as if this author could write anything less – but I didn’t love the heroine and the ending was a miss. Our hero though? FANTASTIC. Gunner is the kind of guy who will melt your heart without trying, and I just wanted all the best for him. There’s some exceptional intimacy here, which is my absolute favorite thing about this author’s work. She is so good at writing those quiet, impactful moments, and Gunner’s heartbreaking backstory lended itself to them. It’s angsty and emotional, sexy and a little sweet, with a complicated love story that centers around the intense chemistry between these two.

The story follows Chase, the final sister to fall in love. Chase is a bit of a workaholic who loves to heat up the sheets without getting feelings involved, but she has started to feel like something is missing. All three of her sisters have found love and they keep talking about finding a better work/life balance, but Chase doesn’t think that’s the life she wants. When a lost letter makes its way to the family sports agency, Chase immediately sees a PR opportunity. The letter was written by a man who had the potential to be a star baseball player, but he seemingly gave up his dream to join the military instead. It’d be a great PR move for the agency to see that dream come to life, but Chase also can’t help being intrigued by the man… and that’s all before she meets him.

Personally, I think this would’ve been more successful if the letter writer’s identity had been a mystery to the reader until the end. We know that Chase is going to find herself in a tough spot, and the deception got to me after awhile – especially once she acknowledges it and carries on anyways. Gunner is such a good guy that I didn’t want to see him hurting, and that made me dislike Chase. She also has such a similar personality to a couple of her sisters that I felt a little deja vu at times. All four books have featured an “it’s just sex” storyline done in different ways, and the similarities are definitely there. Regardless, this is still very well done and a worthwhile read for sure. I loved how it closed out the series – though I also find myself looking forward to the final, extra story. Fans of the series are sure to enjoy this one, but it will also easily read as a standalone.

Blurb:

New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, brings you a romance about love, forgiveness, and living every day to the fullest.

I know finding and signing a military vet to the agency is a long shot–but it’ll be good press just letting him try out. That’s what I tell my family, rather than admit I can’t get the letter he wrote us five years ago out of my head.

But what I tell the bartender in his hometown is a lie. I know veterans protect each other. So I pretend to be a graduate student.

Sparks. Flame. Fire. I accidentally got in too deep.

I didn’t expect to develop feelings for Gunner Camden.

And there’s no way I can admit to my lies now, not without destroying what we share. So I’ll keep faking it.

***

There are two versions of me: before, and after deployment.

Back then I was a screwup kid. I’d lie, cheat, and steal my way out of everything. My only love was baseball.

After I started fighting, I found out there had been another path for me. One that involved my dream. But by then I had seen too much.

The old me was dead, so I put my dreams to rest, too.

Then Chase Kinkade walks into my bar and reminds me that life is meant to live. No regrets.

Fresh. Happy. Hopeful. I can start to see a new dream, with her.

But sometimes things are too good to be true… and dishonesty is the one thing I can’t forgive.

Are you ready to fall for the Kincade sisters and then men who love them in K. Bromberg’s sexy, contemporary, sports romance series? These books can all be read as standalones, but you’ll enjoy reading them as a series!

  1. I’m at 85% of this book, and I totally agree. I don’t like her! And I’m mad at her for lying to him this whole time. Ugh.
Thanks for all the great reviews! And for reading sooo many books.
