⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ REVIEW: Replay by Amy Daws

Don’t tease me with a “trapped in an elevator” scene unless you mean it! I’m kidding. Kind of. Anyways, this went very differently than I expected. I guess I was anticipating a lighter rom com, so the intense tone caught me off-guard (and there are potential triggers in the story). These two have some seriously complicated history, and that makes their interactions in the present emotional, tense, and a little awkward as they get to know each other again. Their story is compelling and engaging though, so I was definitely drawn in – and I really loved how unique it felt. It wasn’t quite the light, sexy read I was looking for, but it’s a successful, different take on a second chance romance.

The story follows Santino and Tilly, two people who used to hook up. At the time, Santino was a definite manhoe and Tilly was a party girl who wasn’t often sober. Booty calls without an emotional attachment worked for the people they were then. But something happened, and it caused both of them to take a deeper look at themselves. In the years since, Santino has gone from a playboy to a two-month chump (aka a serial monogamist who can’t seem to find the right girl). And Tilly has sobered up and focused on herself. So when they meet again, they’re different people than they were before… and they might just be perfect together this time around.

While this does stand on its own, you might enjoy it better if you’ve read other books in the series. I’m not completely caught up, so there were a few instances where I’d have liked to have known the backstory. But this reads as a standalone, and I can honestly say that I had no idea how the story was going to play out. I loved the complexity of it, and while it took me a bit to process my thoughts about Santino and Tilly’s history, I was definitely intrigued. This loses a star because it was a little easier to put down than I’d like; there were a few lulls in the story, and I also didn’t love the frequent references to Santino’s two-month relationships. But I liked it quite a bit, and if you’re a fan of the series, there are some really great twists.

Blurb:

Not all players deserve a second chance… no matter how hot their first chance was.

Football club lawyer, Santino Rossi is known in the locker room as the two-month chump. For years he’s been on a mission to find someone he can share his basil plant with and cure him of his former playboy ways.

Tilly Logan is a fiery, Scottish lass who didn’t bat an eye five years ago when a smoldering Italian pulled her into a nightclub bathroom. He was dark, dangerous, and exactly the good time Tilly was looking for—even if he worked for her over-protective brother’s team.

But a lot has changed and when Tilly returns to London five years later only to find herself trapped in an elevator with the smoldering Italian, it isn’t a happy reunion. Especially because her brother blames Santino for her high tailing it back to Scotland in the first place.

Tilly doesn’t want a replay of past mistakes and reconnecting with Santino is playing with fire.

But if they keep their relationship a secret, it could be worth the burn.

Excerpt:

She exhales a shaky breath and lifts her lips towards mine.

I pause a fraction of an inch from her mouth and whisper, “Tilly?”

“Yes?” her breath stutters as she waits for contact.

“Are you about to kiss me?”

“That was the general thought,” she huffs breathlessly.

I slide my nose along her cheek. “I like that thought.”

“Then why are we talking?”

“Because…” I pull back and frown down at her. “I have some rules.”

Her face contorts, and the mood is killed. “Rules?”

“Well, just one rule.”

“What?” she asks, annoyance dripping in her tone.

I brace myself for her wrath. “We have to be exclusive.”

“What?” She laughs, her face twisted in confusion.

I shake my head. “I told you I’ve changed.”

She blinks back in confusion. “So, what are you asking for exactly? To have me be your next two-month ride?” She chokes out the phrase. “Look, I don’t need to be another one of your two-monthers. I know you’re Mr. Monogamous now, but how do you know that’s what I want?”

“What do you want?”

“I don’t know…”

“Yes, you do.”

“No, I don’t.”

I step back, giving her some space. “Don’t think about it, just say what you want. Get out of your head.”

“I can’t get out of my head because that’s when mistakes happen.” She crosses her arms over her chest and begins pacing in front of the table. “After everything I’ve shared with you the past week, you think a relationship with me is a good idea?”

“I think it’s a better idea than kissing you and not knowing when I’ll get to kiss you again.”
