⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ REVIEW: Over the Moon by K.K. Allen

It was never love for me with this one, but I did like it. I love a bad boy hero with a marshmallow heart, and Kingston definitely gets there somewhere along the way. His vulnerability and persistence are some of the best parts of the book – along with all of the smokin’ chemistry and plentiful conversation. The writing is solid and the suspenseful aspect adds a little something extra. This just had a really slow start for me, and it never fully recovered. There are too many references to Kingston’s womanizing past, too many times when he almost reverted back to that, and too many moments when Kingston gets vulnerable… only to be left hanging. So, I liked a significant amount of this, but there was something off the whole time.

The story follows Kingston, a giant, grumpy football player who is constantly getting into trouble. He’s aggressive and angry at the world, a combination that makes him a little dangerous. So when his latest mess leads to him “volunteering” at a camp for the next month, Kingston isn’t quite sure what to do with himself. There’s a sexy nurse at the camp, so things start looking up… at least until Silver rejects Kingston at every turn. Silver has no interest in a temporary fling, and she certainly has no interest in a jerk like Kingston. But as the two get to know each other better and let down their walls, the chemistry and connection between them becomes impossible to resist.

This is my first time reading something by this author, but I’ve heard great things about her work – and it WAS good. I liked a whole lot of this, from the slow burn to the complex characters, to the easy conversation. However, Kingston makes the transition from womanizer to instalove in the blink of an eye, even if he pushes against that several times. I liked him more than I liked Silver, though I could also understand her reasons for holding back. The secrets in her backstory worked in some ways, but not in others, and sometimes they made me dislike her. I really only disliked Kingston when he was sulking or overly arrogant, lol. I’d have loved if the focus of the story was on the actual relationship, rather than the drama that stands in their way, but that’s just me. Overall, this was a decent read for me, but not a standout.
