ALWAYS ONLY YOU by Chloe Liese – One of my Top 20 of 2020 selections!
Beautiful. This was just a stunningly beautiful, intensely deep love story. I loved the raw honesty that poured out of every scene. And I ADORED this hero. He’s the kind of steadfast, loving, supportive man that everyone needs in their life, and I wish there were more book boyfriends like him. Paired with a compelling, 100% original heroine, this couple is one of my favorites – ever. It’s an opposites attract romance that showcases the kind of deep love that can come from truly accepting yourself for who you are, and I can say without a doubt that I’ve never read anything quite like it. While the journey is emotional throughout, it’s also got touches of humor and lightness that brighten things up. I loved the connection between these two, the slow burn romance, the originality, and I was left wanting more.
This love story follows Ren, a guy who fell for a girl that he can’t have quite yet – and he’s willing to wait however long it takes to get her. Growing up as a nerd and Shakespeare lover shaped Ren into the man he is today, so becoming a star hockey player and undeniably sexy man hasn’t changed who he is at his core. While Ren fell for his coworker, Frankie, right away, she doesn’t seem to feel the same. Frankie’s used to people disappointing or misunderstanding her – as a woman who deals with autism and arthritis on a daily basis, it comes with the territory. But Ren is like a ray of sunshine on her otherwise cold life, and once these two let each other in a little deeper, Frankie realizes that she’d love to soak up some of his warmth.
I’ve been reading this series in reverse, and you won’t get an ounce of disappointment from me about that. The heartbreaking yet uplifting Ever After Always sunk into my soul a little bit, and after that, there was no stopping me from reading more from this author. The books are so vastly different that I couldn’t even begin to tell you which one I liked better, but I can tell you that they’re both excellent. This was just so DIFFERENT, standing out in a sea of romances that can sometimes blend together. It feels authentic, like it actually features people that you’d come across in everyday life – they’re not perfect, and they don’t pretend to be. Though… Ren might be as close to perfect as I’ve seen in a romance hero, because I LOVED him so, so much. He’s gentle, kind, and strong without being toxic. Husband material. If you’re up for a complex love story that will tug on your heartstrings in a big way, then I can’t recommend this book enough.
FLIRTING WITH THE FRENEMY by Pippa Grant – One of my Top 19 of 2019 selections!
So funny, so sexy, so romantic… man, I loved this book. Pippa Grant has such skill in taking on the persona of different characters, giving voice to these unique individuals and finding the funny in simple moments with fantastic banter. Flirting with the Frenemy kept me smiling, made me run through a gambit of emotions, and I just devoured the book.
The story follows Ellie and Wyatt, two people who have known each other for much of their lives but have never gotten along. Wyatt has been Ellie’s brother’s best friend for years, and he was constantly taunting her in their youth. When the story begins, they are both going through rough times in their lives and it’s Christmas. They find themselves alone with a tub of ice cream and plenty of emotions, and somehow wind up sleeping together. But sleeping with your frenemy is not necessarily a great idea, especially when you’re both in a vulnerable state of mind. Fast forward several months, and they unexpectedly find themselves sharing Ellie’s brother’s vacation home (along with Wyatt’s young son), in an enchanting pirate-themed town. After agreeing to share the space for a few days, Ellie and Wyatt are left to deal with the aftermath of their encounter – all while pretending to be a couple so that Ellie can attend a wedding without feeling embarassed in front of her ex.
Both of these characters are extremely likeable and relatable. The chemistry is off the charts, and the depth of emotion between them is great since they’ve known each other for years. It’s a complicated relationship, but it’s easy to see that they care about each other deeply. If you disregard the opening love scene, this is a slow burn romance that makes the payoff that much sweeter. I also loved the side characters and look forward to reading the next book in the series. Pippa Grant has definitely taken her writing to the next level with this one.
ARROGANT DEVIL by R.S. Grey – featured on my list of 15 Heroes You Probably Shouldn’t Love… But Will (check it out here)
This enemies to lovers romance features a hero who is hot and cold. He forms an opinion of our heroine the moment they meet, and then it’s nothing but conflict from there. If you love the tension that comes from an enemies to lovers romance but are looking for a hero who is genuinely good underneath it all, this is the one for you.
Everyone in Cedar Creek, Texas, knows Jack McNight is an arrogant devil. Physically, I get it: he’s tan and fit, with coal-black hair that’s clearly been scorched by hellfire. Oh, and his personality? It burns just as hot.
When I show up on the doorstep of Blue Stone Ranch, I’m run-down and rockin’ my last pair of underwear. I’m hoping for a savior, but instead, I find him.
My opinion of Jack is marred by a dismal first impression, but his opinion of me is tainted even before I arrive. He’s heard I’m a spoiled princess there to take advantage of his goodwill. To him, I’m more trouble than I’m worth.
Our button-pushing banter should get under my skin. His arrogance should be a major turn-off. Problem is, devils are known to offer their own form of temptation.
Every one of his steely glares sends a shiver down my spine.
Every steamy encounter leaves me reeling.
Sure, it could be the Texas heat messing with my head, but there’s no way I’ll survive the summer without silencing him with a kiss and wrestling him out of those Wranglers.
Who knows…going to bed with the devil might just be the salvation I’ve been looking for all along.
RESTRAINT by Adriana Locke – 4-star read that kicks off her current series
Every time a book by Adriana Locke hits my Kindle, I have to get my grabby hands on it immediately. And that was the case with this one too. Though the personalities of these characters weren’t a perfect fit for me, I thoroughly enjoyed the book from start to finish and read it in one sitting. These two workaholics may start their relationship in an unconventional way, but it’s clear from the start that they are perfectly suited for each other.
The story follows Holt and Blaire, two strangers who both value their work more than complicated relationships. When they meet at an airport, sparks fly between them immediately, and it’s not long before Holt is convincing the strong-minded Blaire to have dinner with him. Sharing one steamy night together, it seems like that’s all that will ever be between them until an offer from Holt has both of their worlds spinning. As the two spend more time together – out of the bedroom this time – they realize that they might just fit together in a way neither one expected.
I love Locke’s brand of romance; I always know I’m in for a good read when I start one of her books. This was exactly that. The pages flew by and this love story was over before I knew it. Really, the only thing that holds me back from a 5-star rating is personal preference. I struggled at times with how serious and unemotional these two are; their personalities are so similar that I needed something to lighten things up and feel the love. I wanted that hometown feel that I know and love from Locke, though you definitely get a feel for the family connections. It’s a great start to a new series, incorporating old favorites while starting something completely fresh. We’re introduced to the rest of the Mason family and I cannot wait to see where the series goes next.
THE WORST BEST MAN by Lucy Score – read and enjoyed a few years ago
I read this one well before I started leaving reviews on books and rating them with a critical eye, so I can’t say what the Jeeves of today would rate it, but I enjoyed it at the time! It’s a bit of enemies to lovers, vacation romance, and strangers to lovers in one. And it’s SUPER steamy, that I remember, lol! Classic Lucy Score from the early days.
“Newsflash. You don’t buy me, a$#%^*e. You earn me.”
The bride is a doll. The groom is the perfect gentleman. But the rest of the wedding party? They’re the stuff of nightmares. Rich? Check. Vapid? Double Check. Entitled? Not enough checks in the world. And the Best Man? More like the Worst Man.
But Maid of Honor Franchesca takes her duties seriously. Kidnapped groom? She’s got this. Rude attendees? You just watch her handle them. So a Best Man with a big attitude and an even bigger…checkbook? Yeah, there’s no way she’s going to let that pretentious, judgmental jackhole ruin her best friend’s wedding. No matter how sexy he is. (Well, that’s the plan anyway…)
Aiden Kilbourn doesn’t do long-term relationships. He’s busy ruling the business world, and has yet to find a woman he can tolerate for longer than a month, two at the outside, anyway. Conquering the unconquerable is basically his bread and butter. And he hasn’t met a challenge that he can’t win. But Franchesca Baranski? This smart-mouthed girl from Brooklyn may just be his downfall.
TAPPING THE BILLIONAIRE by Max Monroe – read and enjoyed a few years ago
This is another one that I read way back when, and it’s one of the first books that really set the tone for future Max Monroe stories. A ton of readers still love this hero! Their writing back then was STEAMIER, so I remember it being a light, funny, and sexy read. I don’t remember the plot though, lol! Just that it’s a slightly inappropriate office romance.
A secret duo of romance authors team up under the New York Times & USA Today Bestselling pseudonym Max Monroe to bring you a sexy, laugh-out-loud new series. Are you ready to meet the Billionaire Bad Boys?
Blind dates? Online dating profiles? Been there, done that.
Georgia Cummings has zero luck with dating, and the era of the internet is not her friend.
No matter how fast she runs, how many corners she turns, she can’t find her way out of this weird, alternate universe where men think d*ck pics are a replacement for small talk and getting to know a girl. One more crotch selfie and she might write men off for good…
But why can’t she stop fantasizing about him?
Kline Brooks is the quintessential billionaire bad boy—dark, styled, short hair, muscles for days, and a panty-dropping smile.
As his employee, he won’t touch her with a ten foot pole.
But she won’t touch him either.
Too bad their hormones missed the memo.
If you’re the type of woman who prefers crotch selfies to small talk, this book isn’t for you.
If you enjoy random men you’ve never met filling up your inbox with dirty words and p*rn—for reasons focused more towards diddling your donut than laughing at the absurdity—this book isn’t for you.
If you HATE laughing, this book isn’t for you.
If you want your male leads to grunt, thrust like jack rabbits, and have one-track minds that prefer a nice pair of t*ts to brains every hour of every day for the rest of forever, well, then, this book still isn’t for you.
If you enjoy a good swoon, a hearty laugh, witty banter, and some hot as f*@% f*@%ing, then consider Georgia Cummings your Girl Friday and Kline Brooks your next irresistible book boyfriend.
I DARE YOU by Ilsa Madden-Mills – the first book in her beloved college romance series
This was the first book I read by Madden-Mills, and while the plot details are fuzzy for me (I was VERY big into the texting meet cutes at the time), I liked it enough that I read MANY of her other books afterwards. It’s the first book in her most popular series, and a standalone if you are just diving in.
Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills kicks off a brand-new, sexy, heartfelt contemporary romance series with I DARE YOU!
Badass Athlete: I dare you to…
Delaney Shaw: Who is this?
The late night text is random, but “Badass Athlete” sure seems to know who she is…
Lover of fluffy kitties and Star Wars.

She knows she shouldn’t, but what else is she going to do with her boring Valentine’s Day?
One sexy hook-up later, her mind is blown and the secret’s out.
The most talented football player in the country.
Just ask him.
Too bad for him Delaney’s sworn off dating athletes forever after her last heartbreak.

ATTRACTION by Penny Reid – I haven’t read it yet, but I DO know that it ends on a cliffhanger
He is everything she doesn’t want, so why does she want him so badly?
From the New York Times Bestselling Author Penny Reid
What’s the worst that could happen?
Kaitlyn Parker has no problem being the invisible girl, which is why she finds herself hiding in various cabinets and closets all over her college campus. Despite her best efforts, she can’t escape the notice of Martin Sandeke—bad boy, jerkface bully, and the universe’s hottest, wealthiest, and most unobtainable bachelor—who also happens to be Kaitlyn’s chemistry lab partner.
Kaitlyn might be the only girl who isn’t interested in exploiting his stunning rower’s build, chiseled features, and family’s billionaire fortune. Kaitlyn wants Martin for his brain, specifically to tabulate findings of trace elements in surface water.
When Kaitlyn saves Martin from a nefarious plot, Martin uses the opportunity to push Kaitlyn out of her comfort zone: spring break, one week, house parties, bathing suits, and suntan lotion. Can she overcome her aversion to being noticed? Will he be able grow beyond his self-centered nature? Or, despite their obvious chemistry, will Martin be the one to drive Kaitlyn into the science cabinet of obscurity for good?
BROKEN MILES by Claire Kingsley – a series starter from an author whose work I enjoy
I’m still getting familiar with this author’s work, so I haven’t checked out her older series yet. But this one kicks off a family series, and I’m looking forward to reading it.
“She was unraveling me, slowly but surely. I could feel it happening. Like she was gently unbuttoning the collar of a shirt that fit too tight.”
Single-minded drive earned Roland Miles success—and cost him his first love. When his marriage to Zoe ended, he did the only thing he knew. He dove into work to put his heartbreak behind him.
Zoe Sutton’s life hasn’t exactly gone to plan. She certainly didn’t plan on losing Roland or moving home to work for his family’s winery. Four years after their divorce, she wonders if her chance at happily ever after is behind her.
After discovering his family might lose their land, Roland comes home to help sort out the mess. But between his brothers’ antics, a baby sister who’s all grown up, and a father keeping secrets, complicated isn’t even the half of it.
And then there’s Zoe.
He didn’t come home looking for a second chance with her. But the more time they spend together, the more he realizes what they lost. What they could have again.
Because the truth is, they broke each other’s hearts. And maybe they’re the only ones who can put them back together.
Author’s note: A stoic hero who’s soft on the inside. A sassy heroine who doesn’t take any sh*t. Messy family. Lots of shenanigans. Mattress burning bonfires. And a second chance at love with a big HEA.
The Miles Family series are best enjoyed in order.
SOMEONE ELSE’S OCEAN by Kate Stewart – an early work from a queen of angst
I’ve read a few of Stewart’s SUPER angsty romances, so I’d definitely check this one out in the future. I haven’t yet!
The first time I met Ian Kemp in the sparkling blue waters of St. Thomas, I was six years old and we shared a summer beneath the stars.
The second time I met Ian Kemp, he was a shell of the boy I once knew. Turbulent and infuriating, he refused my friendship at every turn. Like me, he was a casualty of life’s cruelty, but we were planets apart.
We’d both sought refuge on the island, hoping to find our anchor. Instead, we found each other and managed to reclaim our stars…until we both got swept away.
THE LEGACY by Dylan Allen – I’ve been meaning to try this author
This is literally the only author in this boxset whose work I haven’t read yet, but it’s on my radar. Looking forward to giving it a try!
Billionaire Hayes Rivers came into my life like a hurricane…
Heir to an oil empire, he was sexy and seductive, controlling and scorching hot. I craved every touch, every filthy promise that fell from his beautiful mouth, knowing he could break me. My past had left me battered and bruised, with scars he was determined to heal.
Loving him was like drowning—he consumed me, body and soul.
But Hayes has secrets of his own. And nothing could prepare me for the shocking pieces of our pasts that threaten to rip us apart.
When the truth is revealed will our love be enough to shelter the storm?
