Please note: this is the conclusion of a romantic suspense duet, and it picks up right where the first book left off. If you haven’t read The Spy in 3B yet, you can check out my review here.
If the first half of this duet is the slow burn, then this one is the SIZZLE, because it starts with a BANG and doesn’t let up after that. This installment is steamy and all kinds of suspenseful, with a focus on getting everything out in the open and moving forward. It picks up right where the first book let off, so reading them in order is imperative – and most of the relationship development takes place in that book. This is definitely more of an instalove story; I would’ve liked a little less suspense and a lot more focus on a connection beyond the surface level (and the lust), but the duet makes for a quick, action-filled read that certainly satisfies.
Storyline-wise, this installment is MUCH more suspenseful and MUCH steamier than the first book. Anyone who has read The Spy in 3B knows that these two neighbors have just started to see past the lies and secrets, and everything came to a head in a big way at the end of the first book. I really liked Marcus in this half – his sweetness and genuine care shine through. Lyra still didn’t win me over in this, but I liked her a lot more than I did before. Their relationship is more intense and compelling in this part of the story, and the first half of The Assassin in 5F was pretty great. The second half was less successful for me, because I saw the twist coming a mile away… in the first book. So that part wasn’t all that exciting, and the ending also felt abrupt and unfinished. I’m betting that we’ll see more from these characters in future books, though this is technically the end of Marcus and Lyra’s story. Fans of quick, hot stories will like this more than those looking for a well developed romance, but I enjoyed it overall. I received an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this steamy story.

Blurb:
This time, romance isn’t the only thing undercover(s).
It’s not exactly a traditional date night to get involved in a shootout. Then again, there’s nothing traditional about Lyra and Marcus. It was hard enough to hide their undercover work from each other–but discovering that their agencies are sworn enemies? Awkward.
Lyra has never been known for her impulse control, but shooting her boyfriend is definitely an all-time low. Marcus isn’t the type of agent to disobey orders, but he can’t seem to keep his eyes–or hands–off the infuriating woman he’s supposed to forget. Danger is closing in from all sides, forcing them to team up to solve their mutual problem… but the enemy is already closer than either of them know.
From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Nana Malone comes the sexy, gripping conclusion to The Covert Affairs duet.

Sometimes, romance is (also) hiding in plain sight.
It’s hard to fill out a dating profile when everything you write is a lie. But in her line of work, Lyra can’t exactly tell the truth. And she’s determined to get over the man who broke her heart by moving on, so here she is, lying on a dating app. Then again, so is he.
Lyra is no marketing consultant, but a plucky undercover operator. Marcus isn’t really a videogame designer, but he is obsessive over codes. Both of them are elite undercover agents, and unknown to each other, are each tracking down the same dangerous double agent. As the case heats up, so does their chemistry…but their mutual desire to come clean becomes more impossible with every lie.
From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Nana Malone, The Covert Affairs duet is an action-packed, sexy romp for anyone who ever wondered what really happens behind closed doors.

About the Author:
USA Today Bestseller, Nana Malone’s love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense she “borrowed” from her cousin.
It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She’s been in love with kick butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.
While she waits for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, in the meantime Nana works out her drama, passion, and sass with fictional characters every bit as sassy and kick butt as she thinks she is.
