⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ REVIEW: Screwed Up by Harloe Rae

Easily my new favorite from Rae, this was chemistry-filled and STEAMY, with great banter and a lighthearted, playful feel. She’s taken the heat up a notch with this one, leading with the lust before slowly simmering into love. After reading Washed Up, I was excited to read Dane’s story, because I could just tell that the good time guy was going to fall hard – and he definitely does. These two have some serious chemistry from the start, and I loved watching the sexy security guard get in over his head. He’s the perfect combination of gruff and alpha paired with swoony and thoughtful. It’s an unexpected mix that kept me hooked from start to finish.

The story follows Larsen, a psychiatrist who could use a little stress relief. She’s always had an uptight, buttoned up personality, but the stress of Larsen’s job is getting to her these days. So when a hot new security guard starts work at the hospital, Larsen’s friends suggest that she have a little no strings fun. Dane is a good time guy who doesn’t see himself ever being in a relationship, so he’s the perfect guy for the job – especially since Larsen and Dane seem to have the kind of chemistry that’s impossible to ignore. But as the two spend more time together – in AND out of the supply closet – Larsen realizes that Dane is a better guy than she gave him credit for. And Dane realizes that Larsen is the kind of girl that he could spend forever with.

I wasn’t overly impressed with the series starter, Washed Up, but Dane’s character had me ready to read Screwed Up – that, and Rae is a solid author whose work is always fun to read. This is definitely my new favorite from her. The chemistry sparkles, the banter is fun, and both characters were easy to like. I’m usually someone who prefers a slower burn, but the fling to more setup of this romance worked for these characters, and the many steamy scenes certainly didn’t hurt. If you haven’t read Washed Up, this will easily read as a standalone, but the authors have done a great job of tying the series together with little moments featuring the friend group. I’m now looking forward to the next book in the series, because this was a light, steamy, and fun read.

“He might be wrong, but I’m tired of being right.”

The extreme focus on my career has led to a lonely existence.
I don’t make time for much beyond the hospital walls.
And the pressure is getting to me.

Those who know me best highly recommend I take the edge off by any means necessary.
As it turns out, the new security guard at Bayside Regional is just what the doctor ordered.

Dane Owens is a disaster waiting to happen.
Maybe that’s why I can’t look away.
He plays fast and loose with no intention of slowing down.
Especially when it comes to dating.

We’re polar opposites, which is precisely why this arrangement is temporary.
But there’s plenty to keep us occupied until our expiration date.

All I need is for Dane to follow the rules that long.

It was just another day in the Emergency Department — until she was wheeled in through the doors.

Amanda Parks, my childhood best friend’s mom who I may or may not have secretly kissed before leaving for college.

I haven’t seen her in over a decade, and in so many ways, she hasn’t changed.

Same killer curves.
Same hypnotizing eyes.
Same reaction from my heart when I see her.

But something new?
There isn’t a ring on her finger anymore…
And I’m much more of a man than I was at eighteen.

This multi-author series continues with Fired Up!

Through smoke and fire, she’s all I see.

Nothing gives me a bigger rush than when I’m responding to an emergency call.

As a firefighter EMT, my mission has always been clear.

Until I arrive at the scene of an accident and a dark-haired vixen, quite literally, trips into my life.

I quickly learn there’s more to the gorgeous photographer than meets the eye.

Meadow Matthews isn’t a woman who needs saving, but she just might save me.

As a single mom to an adorable little boy, she leaves little time for play.

Which is why, when I approach her with a fun opportunity, she instantly declines.

Unfortunately, snapping photos of greased-up firefighters for a calendar isn’t her thing.

Lucky for us, she fires me up just enough to convince her otherwise.
