Teaser Thursday

It’s looking like a great release week, with new books from authors who have made my Best of lists in the past! I’m a little terrified of the new release from J.T. Geissinger (no guarantee that it ends happily), but it’s easily one of my most anticipated books of the month. There are also several rom coms I’m curious to check out, so we’ll see how it goes! Take a peek at some of the books releasing in the next week below.

August 12: An Unexpected Turn by Stephanie Rose

Peyton
After a risky affair cost me my self-respect, my credibility, and almost my job, I jump at the guidance counselor position that opens up in Uncle Keith’s small town. He’s the only father I’ve ever really known and the one I can turn to—even when I can’t tell him why.

No one here knows what a mess I am, and this clean slate seems perfect. At least until I run into my old crush, who’s only gotten better looking with age.

I won’t be another man’s dirty little secret, even if that crush I had as a teenager blossomed into something much more—something I can’t face.

Reasons Why Absolutely Nothing Can Happen Between Us:
1. Jake is the single dad of one of my new students.
2. Age gap. Age gap. Age gap.
3. He’s my uncle’s best friend.

Jake
I didn’t realize the curvy brunette I flirted with outside my son’s school was my buddy’s sweet, shy niece, all grown-up now. I know better than to get involved.

My marriage crumbled, leaving me and my son with damage we’re still repairing. The last thing I need is to start something with someone fourteen years younger. Did I mention she’s the police chief’s surrogate daughter?

I’m old enough to know better, but I can’t keep my hands off her. I never expected to fall this hard. Even though it’s all wrong, nothing has ever felt this right.

Author’s Note: This deliciously scandalous, small-town, single dad standalone includes steamy times in front of a kitchen sink, a hot new use for a chocolate ice cream cone, and an alpha cinnamon-roll hero who’s very good with his hands.

August 15: Fling by Adriana Locke

Subject: You up?
This is definitely a feeling cute, might want to delete later situation. But isn’t every message sent at two in the morning a precursor to regret?
By the way, I hope you read that subject line as the pun it was intended to be.
Okay, cutting to the chase—neither of us has an interest in cultivating an emotional connection with each other, right? You have your reasons, and I have mine. But none of that keeps us from nearly crossing the line from professional to personal every freaking day.
I mean, what was that almost kiss in the hallway this afternoon?
Something has to give. So this is me, giving in.
I can’t believe I’m suggesting this, but what if you and I had … a fling?
Just a short-lived non-romance. No pretending it will ever be more. We’ll avoid flowers and flirting and get to the f—you know what I mean.
That’s all either of us wants anyway.
Think about it. Let me know.
I’ll see you in the office in the morning.
Oh! One more thing—If you’re not into this, don’t ever mention you saw this email. I’ll pretend I never saw it either.
Okay. Bye.

August 16: One Night with the Duke by Jodi Ellen Malpas

Million‑copy bestselling author Jodi Ellen Malpas is back with a scorching Regency series, perfect for fans of Bridgerton. It’s 1814 and nineteen‑year‑old Eliza Melrose is about to be launched into London’s high society—much to her dismay. The last thing she wants is a husband.

Eliza’s “misplaced” thirst for adventure, knowledge and the creative word is a bone of contention for her father, who battles endlessly to keep her curiosity and ambitions in check, for women are not meant to ask questions or give opinions in matters of business.

But then she meets the youngest son of the late Duke of Chester, a disgraced nobleman who is shrouded in mystery and proving quite impossible to resist…

Sexy, scandalous and utterly unputdownable, this is the Regency novel you’ve been waiting for!

August 16: Pen Pal by J.T. Geissinger

The first letter arrived the day my husband was buried. It was postmarked from the state penitentiary, and contained a single sentence:

I’ll wait forever if I have to.

It was signed by Dante, a man I didn’t know.

Out of simple curiosity, I wrote back to ask him what exactly he was waiting for. His reply?

You.

I told the mystery man he had the wrong girl. He said he didn’t. I said we’d never met, but he said I was wrong.

We went back and forth for a year, exchanging letters every week that grew increasingly more intimate. Then one day, the letters stopped. When I found out why, it was already too late.

Dante was at my doorstep.

And nothing on earth could have prepared me for what happened next.

August 18: Sweet Like Poison by J. Wolf

You need a keeper, Elsa.
The first time I laid eyes on the delicious mountain of a man, Lachlan “Lock” Kelly, he walked out of the room without giving me a single glance.

You’re in trouble now.
It’s my junior year at Savage U and life is grand. Except for the fact that Lachlan Kelly lives right next door, he acts like he doesn’t know my name, and he barely acknowledges my existence.
I don’t get it. How can he so easily look away from me when he’s all I see?

The ice queen is melting…
A few angry frat boys and their arm candy make it their mission to ruin my semester and possibly my life. But I show those boys that messing with Elena Sanderson is a fatal mistake, and Lachlan surprisingly backs me up.
And when he finally gives me his attention, I greedily soak up everything he has to offer.

You’re arsenic-laced candy
Lachlan tells me I’m bad for him, but he can’t resist the pull between us anymore.

I don’t break things.
I know he’s not staying.
When he goes, he’ll leave me tangled up in memories.

I won’t play games.
His promises have a time limit, even though I’m beginning to wish they didn’t.

Even if it hurts…
We were over before we ever began.

(Author’s note: Sweet Like Poison contains dark themes and mature content, including mentions of past assault. Please read the full content warning inside the book.)
