WEEKLY WRAP-UP: August 26th

I had a good reading week, albeit a light one (for me, anyways), and I tried several new-to-me authors. I read Love on the Brain a few months ago, but I officially posted my review this week – and it remains one of my favorite books of the year. I checked out the first co-write by Emma St. Clair and Jenny Proctor, two authors I’ve been meaning to try. And I loved it! I’ll definitely be reading another book from each author individually to get a better feel for their style. I also tried Carrie Elks for the first time, and her office rivals/baby-making romance was strong enough that I’m sure I’ll read more from her in the future. I also tried C.W. Farnsworth’s writing, and her bodyguard romance was a little disappointing but full of potential.

If you read my Teaser Thursday post (found here), you know that there are some exciting books on the way soon! I’ll have reviews going up throughout the week.

If you missed any of this week’s reviews, I’ve got the blurb and rating for each below. There’s also a link to my new release list.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved it

I’m not sure which is worse–the lawyer handling my grandmother’s estate or the attack pelican living on the screened-in porch. Just kidding–I’ll take the pelican any day.

After graduation, I thought I’d be off to grad school, doing research on my favorite poet. Instead, I’m renovating my late grandmother’s home and posting about the process on Instagram. Talk about a detour …

But here I am. Turning Gran’s beach house into a bed and breakfast–a process that would be a lot easier if I didn’t have to deal with the grumpy lawyer living next door. It doesn’t help that the night Jake and I met, I got a little tipsy, and he had to carry me back to my hotel.

But the longer I stay on Oakley Island, the more I feel a connection to my childhood and to my grandmother. This isn’t the life I dreamed of, but dreams can change. Especially when new dreams include a future with Jake. On the outside, he might be pricklier than a puffer fish, but I catch glimpses of a delicious, cinnamon roll center.

Did I mention the tattoos he hides underneath those crisp button-down shirts? Yowza.

When I’m suddenly presented with the academic opportunity of my dreams (former dreams?), my picturesque life on Oakley starts to unravel.

A part of me wants to stay. If only a certain tattooed grump didn’t seem so determined to send me away …

Eloise and The Grump Next Door is a grumpy sunshine, closed door romantic comedy. The Oakley Island Romcom series follows three very different sisters as they renovate the house they inherited and find love on the island along the way. Each book will have sizzling chemistry but no spice.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved it

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new STEMinist rom-com in which a scientist is forced to work on a project with her nemesis—with explosive results.

Like an avenging, purple-haired Jedi bringing balance to the mansplained universe, Bee Königswasser lives by a simple code: What would Marie Curie do? If NASA offered her the lead on a neuroengineering project—a literal dream come true after years scraping by on the crumbs of academia—Marie would accept without hesitation. Duh. But the mother of modern physics never had to co-lead with Levi Ward.

Sure, Levi is attractive in a tall, dark, and piercing-eyes kind of way. And sure, he caught her in his powerfully corded arms like a romance novel hero when she accidentally damseled in distress on her first day in the lab. But Levi made his feelings toward Bee very clear in grad school—archenemies work best employed in their own galaxies far, far away.

Now, her equipment is missing, the staff is ignoring her, and Bee finds her floundering career in somewhat of a pickle. Perhaps it’s her occipital cortex playing tricks on her, but Bee could swear she can see Levi softening into an ally, backing her plays, seconding her ideas…devouring her with those eyes. And the possibilities have all her neurons firing. But when it comes time to actually make a move and put her heart on the line, there’s only one question that matters: What will Bee Königswasser do?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Light and sexy

One office. Two enemies. And a secret he cannot find out…

You know that post-vacation glow? Where you’re all sun-kissed and optimistic and determined to make changes in your life?

Well, mine lasted for about five minutes. Until I walked into the office and saw Myles Salinger sitting in my boss’s chair.

One look at his scowling face was enough to make me want to fly straight back to Europe. And no, he’s not getting any of the donuts I brought in for the team. He doesn’t deserve them.

You see, on paper he’s my contemporary. But in reality he’s been my workplace nemesis for the last two years.

Lucky for us we’re usually separated by five hundred miles.

But now he’s here in my face, throwing his impressive weight around and driving everybody crazy with his demands.

Especially me.

Good thing he doesn’t know the big decision I made while I was away.

That I’m going to try for a baby. Alone.

If he ever finds out he’ll never let me hear the end of it.

So let’s keep it between us. Okay?

Strictly Business is a steamy enemies-to-lovers romance. Expect some hot scenes, a little cussing and two characters whose heads you’d love to bang together…

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mixed feelings

Georgette Adams is trouble incarnate. Spoiled, sassy, smart…and the President’s only daughter.

Getting summoned to a meeting at the White House felt like an honor—until I caught the catch.

I’m the newest member of her security detail. Not only for this summer in DC, but once she leaves for Stanford in the fall as well. Her safety is my responsibility.

Trouble is, the only place Georgie respects any rules is on the tennis court.

Our priorities clash and our personalities conflict, yet somehow—the more time we spend together, the less it feels like work.

But my job description doesn’t include making her laugh or enjoying our conversations. And it definitely doesn’t involve broken rules or blurred lines.

My only job?

Is to serve.
