WEEKLY WRAP-UP: September 2nd

I ended up spending most of my week listening to early audio versions of B.K. Borison’s swoony small town series, just in time for the newest book to release. And I’m not complaining! I originally tried reading the series out of order and that didn’t go so well, so I jumped at the chance to listen to audio versions of the first two books (releasing later this month), and it was a much better experience. I loved In the Weeds once the timeline/characters made sense, and I’ll be diving into the third book this weekend with a lot of enthusiasm. I also checked out Abby Brooks for the first time, and her sexy series starter was a very solid read. I attempted to read the newest from TL Swan, but the over the top “hero” was a complete turnoff, and I ended up skimming a lot of it – so I won’t leave a formal review. So continues the trend of new-to-me authors delivering more satisfying reads than my most anticipated books this summer. Maybe the fall will go differently!

If you read my Teaser Thursday post (found here), you know that there are some exciting books on the way soon! I’ll have reviews going up throughout the week.

If you missed any of this week’s reviews, I’ve got the blurb and rating for each below. There’s also a link to my new release list.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved it 🎧

Evelyn St. James isn’t the kind of woman you forget.

Beckett Porter certainly hasn’t. One incredible weekend in Maine, and he’s officially a man distracted. He’s not unfamiliar with hot and heavy flings. He knows how it goes. But Evie wove some sort of magic over him during their tumble in the sheets. He can’t stop thinking about her laugh. Her hand pressed flat against his chest. Her smiling mouth at his neck.

Also, her eyes. And her legs.

So when she suddenly appears on his farm as part of a social media contest, he is … confused. He had no idea that the sweet and sexy woman he met at a bar is actually a global phenomenon: social media influencer Evelyn St. James. When she disappears again, Beckett resolves to finally forget her and move on.

But Evelyn St. James has a problem.

Feeling disconnected from her work and increasingly unhappy, she’s trying to find her way back to something real. She returns to the last place she was happy, Lovelight Farms and the tiny town of Inglewild.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the hot farmer she spent two incredible nights with.

Nothing at all.

In The Weeds is a sweet and steamy second-chance romance about finding your happiness. It features a grumpy farmer, a no-nonsense social media influencer, a small town of busybodies, and four very cute kittens. This is the second book in a series of interconnected standalones following the three Lovelight owners.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Swoony series 🎧

Where the lovelight gleams …

A pasture of dead trees. A hostile takeover of the Santa barn by a family of raccoons. And shipments that have mysteriously gone missing. Lovelight Farms is not the magical winter wonderland of Stella Bloom’s dreams.

In an effort to save the Christmas tree farm she’s loved since she was a kid, she enters a contest with instafamous influencer Evelyn St. James. With the added publicity and the $100,000 cash prize, she might just be able to save the farm from its financial woes. There’s just one problem. To make the farm seem like a romantic destination for the holidays, she lied on the application and said she owns Lovelight Farms with her boyfriend. Only … there is no boyfriend.

Enter best friend Luka Peters. He just came home for some hot chocolate, and somehow got a farm and a serious girlfriend in the process.

Lovelight Farms is a romantic comedy featuring a handsome, freckled data analyst, a messy, optimistic Christmas tree farm owner, and a small town with the best hazelnut lattes on the east coast. This sweet and steamy romance is a holiday happily ever after.

It is the first book in a series of interconnected standalones following the three Lovelight owners.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great chemistry

He shouldn’t have kissed me. But I shouldn’t have liked it.

Garrett Cooper is grumpy. Bossy. Rude. We’re supposed to work together to save my family’s hotel, but sparks fly every time we’re in the same room. And not the good kind.

Things get off to a rough start between us, and that’s on me…partially. Something to do with humiliating him after too many cocktails, and him pushing his grumpy luck too far.

In my defense, I didn’t know who he was at the time, but you better believe he left knowing who I was.

The next morning, he waltzes into our business meeting—grinning like a Bond villain—and embarrasses me in front of my father and uncle.

I hate him for it. Even more than I hate him for being inexplicably handsome on the outside and absolutely hateful inside. Tall, dark, and evil has never been my thing.

When Garrett kisses me to prove a point, I should hate him for that too… I want to… But I don’t.

Before I know it, an inappropriate text conversation becomes an X-rated phone call, and things have to stop there. He’s my last, best chance at saving my family’s hotel.

But they don’t.

Now this grumpy, growly man who doesn’t do relationships is feeding me strawberries in bed.

What am I supposed to do with that?

It’s time to put an end to this.

Maybe after one more kiss…

DNF

I’ll keep this short and not-so-sweet: when the “hero” of a romance novel makes you nauseous, it’s not going very well. I absolutely loved The Stopover, and it feels like every one of Swan’s books since then has just upped the shock value, with “heroes” whose actions turn my stomach. As always, her writing is incredibly bingeable and easy to devour, but this male lead is SO extraordinarily off-putting that I was left feeling sick to my stomach. The book is also unnecessarily long, so I skimmed a significant portion of it. I was not emotionally invested, and I didn’t care if this couple found their happily ever after.

———-

In this sexy installment of the Miles High Club series from bestselling author T L Swan, a billionaire playboy goes incognito on a backpacking trip in Europe. But how long can he hide from love?

I’m wealthy, powerful, and able to get any woman I want.

So why do I feel so empty inside?

In search of a deeper me, I take a sabbatical from my privileged life. One year of backpacking around Europe: a new identity, no contacts, and no money. Not a bad plan, I think.

Until I get there.

A crowded hostel room, body odor, and beer bongs—there are no words for the fresh hell I’ve landed in.

But amid the chaos, I meet my new roommate, Hayden Whitmore. She sleeps in the bed opposite me, and I openly admit to staring at her more than I sleep. Beautiful, innocent, and smart. Not my usual type but perhaps the perfect woman.

There’s just one small problem with the divine Miss Hayden. She’s totally unaffected by my charm. Nothing is working, and now, I’ve been friend zoned.

What?

But the good thing about me is that I’m an incredible problem solver, and I’ve come up with a diabolical plan. I’m going to slide right in under her friend zone. Be the best damn friend she ever had, hold her hand, make her laugh, and spoon with her in bed.

But now there’s another problem.

Hayden is the one who is sliding under my skin, and maybe friendship isn’t enough.
