Real Fake Love by Pippa Grant $2.49

5-star review: I am LOVING this series so far, and Luca’s book did not disappoint. Grant has such a way with humor, infusing quirky comedy and lightness into her books while still bringing the sexy and the heart. This heroine can only be described as “eccentric,” but she pairs perfectly with a guarded, serious hero who will make you swoon. The combination of the two makes for a read that will have you entranced from the very first page. It’s light one minute and heartfelt the next, never lingering on anything too heavy but still feeling like a well-developed romance. I loved every minute of it.

The story follows Luca, a baseball player who has given up on love after his failed engagement. When jilted bride, Henri, comes into his life, Luca doesn’t know what hit him. Henri loves love – that’s why she’s been engaged 5 times – but she can’t seem to make herself stop falling for the wrong guys. Who better to teach Henri how to stop falling for every guy she meets than Luca, the man who has sworn it all off? They may have the best intentions, but a fake relationship complicates the whole arrangement, especially when they begin living together and slowly merge their lives.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one – other than a great, funny read – but this was more than I could’ve anticipated. Fake relationships are always fun to read, and adding in the unexpected roommates storyline gave this one so much more depth. I loved getting to know Luca better and seeing his walls slowly start to come down. For an author who excels at comedy, Grant really knows how to write those nuanced moments that make a romance. You can feel these two fall for each other. The story flies by and just makes you want more from this group of characters. I think I had a smile on my face for at least half of the book, and I laughed out loud on more than one occasion. It’s playful, it’s sexy, and it’s an all-around fantastic read.

Audio note: I listened to the audiobook and it was incredibly well done. I love the sound of Clarke’s voice – it’s swoonworthy all on its own, but paired with Grant’s writing makes for a total win. It’s deep and sexy and will get you invested in the story in a completely different way. I’m not as sold on the female narrator, but she does a good job and dual narration is always a major bonus. The length is just a little too long for a day at the office, but you’ll probably be laughing too much to get work done anyways.

FREEBIE! Playing for Keeps by Kendall Ryan

I gave this series starter by Kendall Ryan 3.5 stars when it released, and it makes a great introduction to this sexy series of sports romances. If you haven’t read it yet, now is the perfect time – the Kindle version is free today!

A sexy, brother’s best friend hockey romance from New York Times bestseller Kendall Ryan, kicks off a series you’ll devour!

I’ve never been so stupid in my entire life. My teammate’s incredibly sweet and gorgeous younger sister should have been off-limits, but my hockey stick didn’t get that memo.

After our team won the championship, and plenty of alcohol, our flirting turned physical and I took her to bed. Shame sent her running the next morning from our catastrophic mistake.

She thinks I don’t remember that night—but every detail is burned into my brain so deeply, I’ll never forget. The feel of her in my arms, the soft whimpers of pleasure I coaxed from her perfect lips…And now I’ve spent three months trying to get her out of my head. Which has been futile, because I’m starting to understand she’s the only girl I’ll ever want.

I have one shot to show her I can be exactly what she needs, but Elise won’t be easily convinced. That’s okay, because I’m good under pressure, and this time, I’m playing for keeps.

Stealing Her

Top 19 of 2019 Selection

Stealing Her by Rachel Van Dyken $1.99

5-star review: I will never doubt Rachel Van Dyken again because this book was AWESOME. I’m going to be honest and say that when I saw the premise… it seemed like a lot (and it’s definitely not for the faint of heart). She is the master of complex relationships and this one asks a lot of the reader. It’s twisty, tension-filled, and angsty without being dark. Nothing is black and white in this book; there is a whole lot of gray going on and I was absolutely riveted to see what happened next.

The story follows Isobel, a woman who fell in love with a normal guy from a wealthy family when they were in college. Izzy and Julian had a great love, but once they graduated and he joined the family business, his whole personality changed. After staying with Julian through late work nights and numerous affairs, Isobel has reached her breaking point and knows it’s time to end things. When Julian gets into a serious accident right after the breakup, Isobel isn’t sure what to do. He comes home bruised and battered with a whole new attitude and seemingly foggy memories of their time together. Unbeknownst to her, Julian’s estranged twin, Bridge, has agreed to temporarily take his place so that the business doesn’t suffer while Julian fights for his life. What follows is the complicated dance of Bridge playing a role while struggling with his growing feelings for a woman who isn’t his – and Izzy’s struggle to understand why she seems to be falling for her fiancé all over again.

I felt for both of these characters and their complex feelings for each other. Bridge is a great guy who is disgusted with the way his brother has treated Izzy, and he is not so easily pushed into following his father’s commands. Isobel has endured a lot in the name of love already and Bridge knows this will destroy her when it all comes to a head. Their complicated relationship was heartbreaking and beautiful all at once with a sizzling, tense slow burn and great depth of emotion. It ended up being much easier to relate to this story than I expected, and I will never doubt Van Dyken again when she comes up with a seemingly crazy premise. She struck the perfect balance of wrong/right here, with fantastic writing that makes it nearly impossible to put down.

The Mogul and the Muscle by Claire Kingsley 99 cents

This one is on my TBR, and it’s only 99 cents today!

“Shh,” he whispered next to my ear. It wasn’t an urgent plea to be quiet. It was a command, delivered with a slight thrust of his hips. He was about to melt my La Perla thong right off me.

Cameron Whitbury is used to engineering her way out of any problem. But someone is after her, and she doesn’t know who or why. Throw in the threat of a sex scandal and the frustrating antics of the entitled son of her company’s founder, and she might be in over her head.

But sacrifice her privacy to an overprotective bodyguard? No thanks. She doesn’t need a six-foot-five, motorcycle-riding, square-jawed, hazel-eyed man-beast shadowing her every move.

Jude Ellis is ready to retire from the cloak and dagger stuff to live a normal life. He doesn’t need another client. Not even one with coppery-red hair and mile-long legs who looks hot AF in a sexy pair of heels.

To appease her worried friends, Cameron hires Jude as her bodyguard. And despite their feisty banter and their rampant—and totally inappropriate—sex fantasies, they’re both determined to keep it professional.

But as the danger to Cameron escalates, the heat simmering between them just might combust.

Author’s note: Big wall-of-man hero with a fierce (and growly) protective streak. Confident and snarky heroine. All the banter. Sex in a closet. And a daring rescue with a big, heart squishing HEA.

The Dating Playbook by Farrah Rochon $2.99

I rated this fake relationship romance as 3.5 stars, and it’s a fun and sexy read. It’s also on a significant price drop for today only, so now is the ideal time to grab it if you haven’t yet!

When a personal trainer agrees to fake date her client, all rules are out the window in this “fun, heartfelt, and totally relatable” romantic comedy named one of the best of the year by USA Today, NPR, and Entertainment Weekly (Abby Jimenez, NYT bestselling author of Life’s Too Short).

When it comes to personal training, Taylor Powell kicks serious butt. Unfortunately, her bills are piling up, rent is due, and the money situation is dire. Taylor needs more than the support of her new best friends, Samiah and London. She needs a miracle.

And Jamar Dixon might just be it. The oh-so-fine former footballer wants back into the NFL, and he wants Taylor to train him. There’s just one catch—no one can know what they’re doing. But when they’re accidentally outed as a couple, Taylor’s game plan is turned completely upside down. Is Jamar just playing to win . . . or is he playing for keeps?

That Forever Girl by Meghan Quinn $1.99

5-star review: Heartbreaking, angsty and deeply romantic with a touch of humor, That Forever Girl is the ultimate second chance romance. Mixing flashbacks that show the sweet roots of Rogan and Harper’s relationship with the stark present of where they are now, this book pulls on all your heartstrings and lays out their relationship from start to finish to future. It’s heavier and more serious than Meghan Quinn’s usual style, but so gripping and immersive. I loved that the angst of the present was mixed with the lightness of the past, and of course anyone who read the first book in the series knows that Rogan’s brothers add plenty of humor.

The story follows Harper as she moves back home, forcing her to come face to face with her high school sweetheart and love her life 7 years after he shattered her heart. Rogan and Harper were the perfect couple, best friends turned lovers who became engaged in college only for things to fall apart after Rogan suffered a devastating injury. In his darkest hour, he pushed Harper away and time has only made it clearer what a huge mistake Rogan made. He knows he acted horribly and stands no chance of a future with Harper, but Rogan can’t help the fact that he will love her til the day he dies. As they begin spending more time together, those old feelings are brought to the surface and their tension-filled interactions lead Harper and Rogan to wonder if they could ever get back what they once had.

It’s a complex relationship and the writing is so fantastic that even when things seem bleak, you can’t help rooting for these two. Harper was always Rogan’s forever girl, and though their love was broken by his darkness, that’s never changed. Rogan’s brother Brig describes it best when he says that the “boy loses girl” section of their story is a tad longer than normal – it’s not an easy road back to happily ever after. Despite that, I loved this story and how well Meghan Quinn built their relationship. The reader definitely gets a true sense of their history together, and the steps Rogan has made to ensure he’s the man Harper deserves in the future.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood $6.99

This sale isn’t dirt cheap, but it’s certainly cheaper than usual! If you haven’t added this to your collection yet, now is not a bad time to do so.

5-star review: I loved this SO VERY MUCH. It’s one of those books that left me smiling like a fool, with a full heart and a strong desire to start reading it all over again. The evolution of these characters from start to finish is intense, and I absolutely loved how everything came full circle by the end. One of my favorite parts of the story was trying to decipher our hero’s quiet looks, moods, and glances – there is some outstanding subtlety to this love story. And it is definitely a love story. The romance is central throughout, with a light, fresh feel that gets richer and deeper as the story progresses. It tackles difficult subjects like sexual harassment and self-worth, while also remaining exceedingly light and uplifting for much of the book. And by the end? I was content, happy, and oh so satisfied to finally see these two fools get together.

The story follows Olive, a 26-year-old grad student trying to cure cancer. She is still finding her confidence, but she loves what she’s doing. So when Olive’s best friend develops feelings for the guy Olive just started dating, she does the logical thing… kiss a random man to make her friend believe that it’s all okay. Or at least that seemed logical at the time. Turns out, the random stranger that Olive kissed is none other than the most hated professor around, Adam (34). And while Olive has no desire to spend time with Adam, her impulsive act means that entering a fake relationship with the man is actually a good idea. But as the two get to know each other better, Olive discovers that the mercurial, moody professor might just be a sweetheart underneath his broody exterior.

This is one of those books where the love story is SO completely unique. It’s awkward, science-filled love – and I adored every minute of it. Sure, Olive might’ve been a bit too peppy and upbeat for me at the beginning, but that’s all part of her character evolution. I loved the grumpy/sunshine dynamic, and Adam becomes such a swoonworthy cinnamon roll by the end (with a little bit of alpha gruffness). It’s a slow burn romance with one incredibly intimate and dynamic love scene – the intimacy and emotional connection are the shining stars here. Well, it’s all pretty great, actually. This has such a vivid, distinct voice that I am very much looking forward to whatever’s next from Hazelwood.

Don’t Kiss the Bride by Carian Cole 99 cents

I’ve been slowly listening to the audio version of this hefty age gap/marriage of convenience romance, and it has really stuck with me. While I’m icked out by the age gap, the story itself is one-of-a-kind and very interesting. I’m sure I’ll finish and review this at some point, but it’s only 99 cents today if you want to take a chance in the meantime. Plus, the audio is excellent!

Carian Cole delivers a sweet but sexy slow burn, age gap, marriage of convenience romance with major swoony feels!

I guess you could say I was a damsel in distress, and he was my knight in shining armor. But more accurately, I was a girl with a lot of bad luck, and he was a guy with a lot of muscles and tattoos.

Jude “Lucky” Lucketti wasn’t just a sexy, brooding construction worker. He was my own personal hero who seemed to be in all the right places at the right times. Like when my car broke down and I needed a ride home, and when I face planted on the sidewalk right in front of him and had to be taken to the emergency room.

Those weren’t exactly my best moments, but they were his.

We became friends, and it didn’t matter that he was sixteen years older than me. We had a lot in common—like our love of old rock music and vintage fast cars, and our aversion to relationships. When he approached me with a crazy idea to help me out, I couldn’t say no.

The arrangement was supposed to be temporary. A marriage on paper and nothing else.

It should’ve been easy, but it wasn’t. Because here I am, eighteen years old, still in high school, and married to a man I was never supposed to fall in love with.

We had just one rule—no kissing the bride. But we broke that rule, and it sealed our fate forever.

The Bromance Book Club (Bromance Book Club, #1)

The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams $1.99

5-star review: Such an original storyline! I loved the concept of a guy so desperate to win his wife back that he’s willing to read romance novels to figure out all the ways he went wrong. I can honestly say I’ve never read a romance quite like this one before, and the journey was both hysterical and heartwarming. The overall tone is heavier than I expected it to be, though I guess that goes along with the concept – rebuilding a marriage from the ground up is not a light and easy task. It’s well written, interesting, and unpredictable with characters who are sometimes frustrating (neither one is without fault in the demise of their marriage). I was rooting for these two from the start, and I loved how committed Gavin was to making things right.

The story follows Gavin, a pro baseball player who fell for his wife, Thea, fast and hard. Thea got pregnant within a few months of them getting together, so they rushed into marriage without developing a solid foundation first. Three years later, and Thea has asked for a divorce… after blindsiding Gavin with the revelation that she’s been faking her O’s in bed since they got married. Reeling and unwilling to give up on his marriage, Gavin seeks the help of a group of guys who read romance novels in order to gain insight into the minds of the women in their lives. Without a better option in sight, Gavin begins reading and soon discovers all the reasons his marriage was doomed from the start.

Gavin is really what makes this book – he is such a great guy, unwavering in his love for Thea but without the confidence to gain her trust back. It’s a slow burn of sorts, with these two building up true intimacy before things turn physical again. There are some excerpts from the book Gavin was reading that parallel their relationship well and also add an element of humor, which was a welcome relief from the sometimes overwhelmingly heavy storyline. If there’s one thing that I didn’t like about the book, it would be the toxicity of Thea’s sister. I really didn’t like who Thea became when she was around her sister, but it just shows that Gavin wasn’t completely at fault in the demise of their marriage. If you’re looking for a solid, emotional read with shots of humor, this is definitely worth your time.

Crazy for Loving You by Pippa Grant 99 cents

This one is on my TBR, and it’s only 99 cents today!

Is there anything hotter than a growly, overprotective Marine cradling a baby? My melted ovaries don’t think so.
When you work hard and have the bank account to prove it, you’re entitled to play hard. I’ve seen some crazy things. I’ve caused some crazy scenes. And there’s no shame in my game.

But I’m still knocked off my stilettos when an insane chain of events leads to me inheriting a baby. The craziest part? The baby comes with a by-the-books, no-nonsense retired Marine who’s so regimented that I wouldn’t be surprised if he irons his boxer shorts.

Parenting? Bring it on. I don’t need sleep—I once started my day with business meetings in Cairo and ended it three days later at a club in Melbourne. Changing diapers? Please. It can’t be any more challenging than changing out of Spanx on the back of a moving motorcycle. Training the little guy to run the family’s real estate empire? He’ll be all our bosses by the time he’s four.

But living with my new co-guardian? The gruff, muscled, tattooed former military man who manages to check all my boxes while trying to sneak under my skin?

He needs to go.

Because the longer he stays, the more layers he’s peeling off my heart.

But love isn’t something that’s ever diluted my gene pool, and I like my life just fine without it. I have awesome friends, this adorable baby and an obscene amount of money. Who needs love?

Turns out…maybe me.

Crazy for Loving You is a larger-than life ride through accidental parenthood featuring a fun-loving billionaire playgirl, a crusty Marine with a gooey center, a horny dolphin, the world’s most obscene pool, and all the fun you’d expect from a world built by Lucy Score, Claire Kingsley, Kathryn Nolan, and Pippa Grant.

The Bluewater Billionaires are four shared-world hot romantic comedies written by Lucy Score, Claire Kingsley, Kathryn Nolan, and Pippa Grant. They can all be read as stand-alone novels.

Burn For You by J.T. Geissinger 99 cents

This was the first book I read by J.T. Geissinger, and it started my love of her work! I’ve been meaning to go back to this series of slow burn standalones, and now is the perfect time – the first book is only 99 cents! This Beauty and the Beast-inspired, marriage of convenience romance is actually right on trend today too.

A classic fairy tale gets a sexy, edgy twist.

Jackson “The Beast” Boudreaux is rich, gorgeous, and unbelievably rude to the staff at Chef Bianca Hardwick’s New Orleans restaurant. Bianca would sooner douse herself in hot sauce than cook for Jackson again, but when he asks her to cater his fund-raiser, Bianca can’t refuse, knowing the cash will help pay her mother’s medical bills. Then Jackson makes another outrageous request: Marry me. The unconventional offer includes an enormous sum—money Bianca desperately needs, even if it does come with a contract—and a stunning ring.

The heir to a family bourbon dynasty, Jackson knows the rumors swirling around him. The truth is even darker. Still, he needs a wife to secure his inheritance, and free-spirited, sassy Bianca would play the part beautifully. Soon, though, their simple business deal evolves into an emotional intimacy he’s built walls to avoid.

As the passion heats up between them, Bianca and Jackson struggle to define which feelings are real and which are for show. Is falling for your fake fiancé the best happy ending…or a recipe for disaster?

Screwed Up by Harloe Rae $2.49

5-star review: Easily my new favorite from Rae, this was chemistry-filled and STEAMY, with great banter and a lighthearted, playful feel. She’s taken the heat up a notch with this one, leading with the lust before slowly simmering into love. After reading Washed Up, I was excited to read Dane’s story, because I could just tell that the good time guy was going to fall hard – and he definitely does. These two have some serious chemistry from the start, and I loved watching the sexy security guard get in over his head. He’s the perfect combination of gruff and alpha paired with swoony and thoughtful. It’s an unexpected mix that kept me hooked from start to finish.

The story follows Larsen, a psychiatrist who could use a little stress relief. She’s always had an uptight, buttoned up personality, but the stress of Larsen’s job is getting to her these days. So when a hot new security guard starts work at the hospital, Larsen’s friends suggest that she have a little no strings fun. Dane is a good time guy who doesn’t see himself ever being in a relationship, so he’s the perfect guy for the job – especially since Larsen and Dane seem to have the kind of chemistry that’s impossible to ignore. But as the two spend more time together – in AND out of the supply closet – Larsen realizes that Dane is a better guy than she gave him credit for. And Dane realizes that Larsen is the kind of girl that he could spend forever with.

I wasn’t overly impressed with the series starter, Washed Up, but Dane’s character had me ready to read Screwed Up – that, and Rae is a solid author whose work is always fun to read. This is definitely my new favorite from her. The chemistry sparkles, the banter is fun, and both characters were easy to like. I’m usually someone who prefers a slower burn, but the fling to more setup of this romance worked for these characters, and the many steamy scenes certainly didn’t hurt. If you haven’t read Washed Up, this will easily read as a standalone, but the authors have done a great job of tying the series together with little moments featuring the friend group. I’m now looking forward to the next book in the series, because this was a light, steamy, and fun read.

FREEBIE! My Beautiful Neighbor by Piper Rayne

I rated this series starter as 4 stars, and it’s the first book in a tropey series of small town romances. The perfect place to jump in if you haven’t checked out the series yet, and it’s free at the moment!

Who’s the mystery woman who just walked into my brewery?

I’m not the only one from my Alaskan small town asking themselves that question. But I’m positive, I’m the only one in Sunrise Bay undressing the pretty blonde in my head. Everything about her, from her make-up to her high heels says she’s a fish out of water.

Whispers and speculations run rampant until the secret of who she is gets uncovered. Then the rumor mill goes into overdrive when she announces she’s staying to open a bookstore in the building next to mine—throwing a big wrench into my plans to buy that empty building.

I quickly find myself in a tug-of-war since my business partner/brother is upset she’s ruined the opportunity to expand our business. I try to keep my distance, but I’ve got one sister with a gossip column on the local radio station and two meddling grandmas setting me up as a tour director.

And now I kind of like the idea of our new neighbor staying. But small-town life isn’t for the weak—time will tell if she has what it takes to be one of us.

Too bad she’s off-limits. He’s not going to be the jerk who messes around with his best friend’s little sister, so he keeps his feelings bottled up and settles for acting as her protector instead.

Andie Lockhart’s dreamed of kissing Wyatt for as long as she’s known what kissing is. But since he’s dated nearly every woman in town but her, she’s long since accepted he’ll never see her as anything more than his best friend’s tomboy little sister.

When a real estate developer threatens the beloved old house Andie inherited from her grandmother, her white knight Wyatt swoops in with his handyman skills to save the day. But the more time they spend working on the house together, the harder it becomes to ignore their irresistible attraction.
