This was quick and bingeable, but ultimately a little unfulfilling. Bromberg is a one-click author for me, someone who delivers 5-star reads time and time again. So there was a lot of good stuff going on – some great sexual tension, an engaging meet cute, and a romance that mixes light and sexy moments with deeper, angstier themes. It flew by, was easy to binge, and wraps up the series nicely while still being a standalone. But… there was just something missing for me. It felt like a lot more telling than showing, with VERY short chapters that simply scratched the surface. I could’ve done without all of the flashbacks, because the time would’ve been better spent on actually developing the relationship beyond a convenient workplace hookup. It’s not quite in 3-star territory for me, but I never even considered a 5-star rating, which was both a surprise and disappointment.
The story follows Ford, the final triplet to meet his match. Stranded in a storm, Ford rides out a truly terrible day at an inn, where he meets a beautiful stranger. Elle and Ford strike up a conversation, and they wait out the storm while connecting on a level neither one has in a long time. The only problem? Elle has an engagement ring on her finger, so the attraction that sparks between them will just have to be ignored. When Ford runs into Elle at a real estate auction a few weeks later, she’s ringless and bidding against him on an investment property. The two somehow find themselves investing in the project together, and it’s not long before they’re spending their days on the renovation. But Elle still has a tan line on her finger, so crossing any other lines seems like a bad, bad idea.
I’m a big fan of Bromberg’s writing style, so this was easy to devour in one sitting. The initial meet cute was great, and I could feel the tension. Having Elle be engaged at the start adds an extra kernel of conflict, so I was excited about the potential in the story. Plus, Ford makes a very solid hero, a businessman who isn’t afraid of a relationship and treats her like an equal. It was Elle who was tougher to like, because she was running scared the entire time. She’s also part of the reason why their relationship felt so lust-based for the majority of the book, and the quick interactions didn’t do much to change that. Each chapter was only a handful of pages, so the pacing was super quick and the conversations felt shallow. I really wanted to love it, but I didn’t have much of an emotional attachment to the characters. So this ended up being a 3.5-star read for me – a decent end to the series, but not a memorable experience.

Audio Note:
The audio was great! Jason Clarke is one of my favorites, so the dual narration was enjoyable and very relaxing. The runtime is short enough (8ish hours) to finish in a single day, and it worked well as a workday listen. I wouldn’t say that it’s a slow burn, but they have to get through the obstacle of Elle’s engagement before anything can happen, and there were some sexy, tense moments along the way. Bromberg excels at tension. So this is the kind of easy, steamy read that is fun to binge, and it works well in the audio format.

Blurb:
Fall in love with billionaire, Fordham Sharpe, and sassy businesswoman, Ellery Sinclair, in this all-new wrong place at the right time, forced proximity, office romance by New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg.
One stormy night.
One hotel bar full of stranded travelers.
One available chair next to a charming, mysterious, and sexy-as-hell man.
There was something about him and our conversation that made me feel alive. That made me feel heard. That sparked a fire within me.
When our paths crossed again, I never expected the stranger to be Fordham Sharpe, one-third of the sinfully rich and ridiculously successful Sharpe International Network brothers. Nor did I expect we’d become partners—fifty-fifty—in a hotel transformation that dreams were made of.
My dreams, anyway.
To him, I was off limits. He was my venture partner, and we knew better than to mix business with pleasure. But we had one thing in common—we were both hiding. From our pasts. From unresolved family conflicts. From what really mattered—our hearts.
But as each day passed, our mutual attraction became harder to resist.
We agreed to the partnership to prove our worth to our families, but perhaps we’d only prove our need for something else. Each other.

I was never supposed to see him again. Him being the man wearing the perfectly tailored suit who oozed an intoxicating mixture of wealth, rebellion, and sex appeal.
One night.
No strings.
No names.
Great sex.
Still riding the high from last night, I walk in to meet my new client, and he’s wearing that same dangerous smirk that reeled me in hours ago.
Yes, I’m consulting for Callahan Sharpe. And yes, he’s that Callahan Sharpe.
Billionaire heir apparent who abides by no rules, bucks convention, and is determined to complete one final project to honor his late father’s legacy before walking away from the family business for good. Luckily and unluckily for me, I’ve been tasked to go to the Virgin Islands to help accomplish his goal. Callahan has no problem breaking his company’s no fraternization rule, but not me. There’s too much at stake.
What could possibly go wrong when you’re forced to work—and live—side by side with a man you can’t resist?
Are you ready to fall for the Sharpe brothers in K. Bromberg’s sexy, contemporary, billionaire romance series? These books can all be read as standalones, but can be enjoyed as a series as well . . .
