Such a great series! After reading and absolutely LOVING the second book in this series (one of my favorites of 2022), I decided to go back and start the series from the beginning. And I’m glad that I did! There’s a lot to love about this office romance, from the strong and resilient heroine to the more-than-grumpy hero whose frosty heart slowly melts once he lets love into his life. I also liked the setting, which is different than the norm, as well as the playful interactions and super spicy moments. Though I didn’t love this one as much as the first, it ended up being a great ride from start to finish. There were only little things that bugged me along the way (the hero messes up a few too many times!), with the vast majority of this being very solid. It was easy to see the ways Asher’s writing grew from one book to the next, and that makes me want to read book three as soon as possible.
The story follows Rowan, a man who is known for being cold and selfish. His business decisions have always been ruthless, and that’s perhaps because of his family dysfunction. So when his grandfather’s will requires him to temporarily run Dreamland – the Disney-like theme park his family owns – it’s a shock to the system. Rowan has avoided the park as much as possible since his mother passed away, and being back does nothing to lighten his mood. Except… there’s one sassy employee at the park who drives Rowan a little crazy, almost as much as she inspires him to dream bigger. Spending time with Zahra lightens the part of Rowan that went dark years ago, but he may have missed out on his chance for forever by leading with deception.
Can this be read as a standalone? Definitely! I love a good marriage of convenience romance, so I jumped right in to book two first, and I had no trouble reading either book without the context of the other. This does make a solid series starter though, introducing the premise of the other books, and that makes it a good place to start. I liked that this was an office romance with a new spin on the trope – Rowan is cold and closed off during work hours, but warm and friendly when he’s interacting with Zahra online. Though she doesn’t know that, lol, which is part of the problem. It was interesting to see Zahra fall for both sides of Rowan, and I liked how much he slowly finds himself again. Unfortunately, he definitely stumbles a few (too many) times along the way. There’s a lot of deception, and that started to grate on me after awhile. I also didn’t find their chemistry as compelling as it could’ve been, though I really can’t pinpoint what was missing for me. This may just be a case of me starting with the better book first, because a lot of it was very, very good.

Blurb:
Rowan
I’m in the business of creating fairy tales.
Theme parks. Production companies. Five-star hotels.
Everything could be all mine if I renovated Dreamland.
My initial idea of hiring Zahra was good in theory, but then I kissed her.
Things spiraled out of control once I texted her using an alias.
By the time I realized where I went wrong, it was too late.
People like me don’t get happy endings.
Not when we’re destined to ruin them.
Zahra
After submitting a drunk proposal criticizing Dreamland’s most expensive ride, I should have been fired.
Instead, Rowan Kane offered me a dream job.
The catch? I had to work for the most difficult boss I’d ever met.
Rowan was rude and completely off-limits, but my heart didn’t care.
At least not until I discovered his secret.
It was time to teach the billionaire that money couldn’t fix everything.
Especially not us.

The series continues with Terms & Conditions!

Declan
I’m destined to become the next CEO of my family’s media empire.
The only problem? My grandfather’s inheritance clause.
Fulfilling his dying wish of getting married and having an heir seemed impossible until my assistant volunteers for the job.
Our marriage was supposed to be the perfect solution to my biggest problem.
But the more we act in love for the public, the more unsure I feel about our contract.
Caring about Iris was never part of the deal.
Especially not when breaking her heart is inevitable.
Iris
My plan to marry Declan was simple in theory.
Move in together. Throw a wedding. Have a baby.
We set rules to prevent any kind of issues.
Ones that were never meant to be broken, no matter how much Declan tempts me.
But what happens when our fake relationship bleeds into our real one?
Falling in love was never an option.
At least not for me.
Terms and Conditions is the second book in a series of interconnected standalones following three billionaire brothers.
