WEEKLY WRAP-UP: May 26th

I didn’t think I’d have much time to read this week, but I ended up doing a lot of audiobook listening – with mixed results!

Firstly, Livy Hart’s newest released this week, which is easily one of my favorites of the year so far. I read it a few months ago, and I was excited to share my review again for release day. It’s such a great road trip romance.

I also really loved The True Love Experiment, which was surprisingly sexy and sexual tension-filled. Another best of the year (so far) contender!

Lauren Asher’s debut novel, Throttled, recently came out on audio, so I happily dove into her first series. Thankfully, I’d already read a spoiler about the conflict in Throttled, so I went into it with lower-than-usual expectations – and ended up really enjoying it! I discuss the conflict in detail in my review post, in case you missed it.

Then the books I was less enthusiastic about. I just didn’t love the couple at the heart of Teagan Hunter’s newest, but I liked some of the unique elements. So definite mixed feelings for me. I ended up DNFing The Boyfriend Candidate, because I got two and a half hours into the audiobook and the couple had basically only interacted once. It was also super heavy on the political stuff, focused more on that than the romance. A quick peek at Goodreads tells me I wouldn’t have loved the back half, so I’m good with my DNF.

I played a lot of the new Zelda game this week and listened to books the whole time, which allowed me to tackle my B-list TBR in a big way. We’ve all got books on our TBR that we want to check out, but are not convinced we’ll love, and those are the books I’ve been focusing on. So you’ll probably see more mixed and DNF reviews from me than usual for the next few weeks – that’s semi-intentional! A couple of books have also surprised me in good way, so that’s a positive as well.

If you read my Teaser Thursday post (found here), you know that there are some exciting books on the way soon! I’ll have reviews going up throughout the week.

If you missed any of this week’s reviews, I’ve got the blurb and rating for each below. There’s also a link to my new release list.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved it 🎧

Sparks fly when a romance novelist and a documentary filmmaker join forces to craft the perfect Hollywood love story and take both of their careers to the next level—but only if they can keep the chemistry between them from taking the whole thing off script—from the New York Times bestselling authors of The Soulmate Equation and The Unhoneymooners.

Felicity “Fizzy” Chen is lost. Sure, she’s got an incredible career as a beloved romance novelist with a slew of bestsellers under her belt, but when she’s asked to give a commencement address, it hits her: she hasn’t been practicing what she’s preached.

Fizzy hasn’t ever really been in love. Lust? Definitely. But that swoon-worthy, can’t-stop-thinking-about-him, all-encompassing feeling? Nope. Nothing. What happens when the optimism she’s spent her career encouraging in readers starts to feel like a lie?

Connor Prince, documentary filmmaker and single father, loves his work in large part because it allows him to live near his daughter. But when his profit-minded boss orders him to create a reality TV show, putting his job on the line, Connor is out of his element. Desperate to find his romantic lead, a chance run-in with an exasperated Fizzy offers Connor the perfect solution. What if he could show the queen of romance herself falling head-over-heels for all the world to see? Fizzy gives him a hard pass—unless he agrees to her list of demands. When he says yes, and production on The True Love Experiment begins, Connor wonders if that perfect match will ever be in the cue cards for him, too.

The True Love Experiment is the book fans have been waiting for ever since Fizzy’s debut in the New York Times bestselling The Soulmate Equation. But when the lights come on and all eyes are on her, it turns out the happily ever after Fizzy had all but given up on might lie just behind the camera.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ So good

Fans of Christina Lauren and Tessa Bailey will adore this witty and unforgettable rom-com about skyways, highways, and all the perfectly wrong ways to fall in love.

As the black sheep of the family, choreographer Cassidy Bliss vowed she’d do anything to get home in time to help with her sister’s wedding and avoid family disappointment…again. She just never expected “anything” would involve sharing the last rental car with the jerk who cut her off in line at the airport this morning. But horrible times apparently call for here-goes-nothing measures.

Driving across the country with Luke “life can be solved with a spreadsheet” Carlisle must be a penance for some crime she committed. Because the second he opens his mouth, it’s all she can do to not maim him with her carry-on. But somewhere between his surprisingly thoughtful snack sharing and his uncanny ability to see straight to the core of her, her feelings go unchecked.

Suddenly, their crackling chemistry is just one more thing they have to navigate—and it couldn’t come at a worse time. But after a lifetime of letting the expectations and needs of others drive her life, Cassidy must decide if she’s ready to take the wheel once and for all.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Solid series starter 🎧

What happens when my brother’s rival becomes my secret crush?

Noah Slade is a Formula 1 legend in the making.
Focused. Unapproachable. Ruthless on and off the track.
A man with walls higher than the Grand Canyon.
And my brother’s new teammate.
I want more of the prince who disguises himself as the villain.
But while I crave a happy ending, he wants to destroy his.

Maya Alatorre is a forbidden temptation.
An ambitious post-grad I should stay far away from.
And chaos wrapped with a bow.
We’re a ticking time bomb, about one wrong move away from exploding.
I want to trip the wire, detonating together in passion and pain.
Because in the end, all’s fair in lust and war.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mixed feelings

To my fans, I’m known as Ivan Fitzgerald.
To my teammates, I’m just Fitz.
And to the girl I’ve been talking to online, I’m ShootsAndScores.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the woman on the other side of the screen is completely out of my league. Why wouldn’t she be? Sure, I’m a professional hockey player, but that doesn’t mean anything when I’m shy and awkward in the most basic social situations and she’s a fiery vixen who oozes sex appeal.

No matter how badly I want her, I can’t have her. Because the woman I love watching so much? The one I might be slowly falling for?

She’s not just some stranger on the internet. It’s Rosie, the woman who serves me coffee and donuts every morning.

And she has no clue it’s me.

NEUTRAL ZONE is a standalone sports romance novel. It features a hot, toothless hockey player, a curvy woman who is confident in her body, lots of fun banter, and STEAM!
