WEEKLY WRAP-UP: July 14th

It’s a two-week wrap-up! The blog was in vacation mode for the Fourth of July, so I’m wrapping up the reviews I posted over the last two weeks. And there were some great books in this mix!

My favorite of the group is Out on a Limb, an accidental pregnancy romance between strangers who become roommates. I loved the tension, the slow burn vibes (at least after that first smokin’ scene), and the heartfelt undertones. It’s easily one of the best books I’ve read in weeks.

I also posted my review for Forget Me Not, a second chance romance that I listened to a few months ago. It was (finally!) release day for this debut romance, and I really loved the author’s writing style as well as the excellent audio.

I checked out the brand new audio version of The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, which was completely redone for this new edition. I loved the new duet-style audio and the fresher feel, which gives the book a whole new vibe and is well worth a re-read/listen.

I tried a new-to-me author, Anise Starre, whose office romance was a quick and easy (somewhat forgettable) binge for me. It was light and sexy with some great tension, and I look forward to more from the author as her writing grows.

Same goes for Brandy Pelletier – her debut romance started out very strong for me and I loved the unique premise. It got a little too soft and strangely paced for me, so I ended up DNFing since I’m too close to a reading slump to push through. But I think she’s got some stellar potential, and I look forward to whatever’s next from her.

Finally, How to Honeymoon Alone just didn’t live up to the adorable cover for me. I’m generally a fan of Hayle’s light and easy romances, but this one was just a little too sweet and sedate for me.

I went three weeks without a 5-star read, and now I’ve had two in the last week (review for the other on Monday!), so things are looking up. Here’s hoping they stay that way!

If you read my Teaser Thursday post (found here), you know that there are some exciting books on the way soon! I’ll have reviews going up throughout the week.

If you missed any of this week’s reviews, I’ve got the blurb and rating for each below. There’s also a link to my new release list.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved it

Winnifred “Win” McNulty has always been wildly independent. Not one to be coddled for her limb difference, Win has spent most of her life trying to prove that she can do it all on her own. And, with some minor adjustments, she’s done just fine.

That is until she has a one-night stand with the incredibly charming Bo, a perfect stranger. And that one night changes everything.

While Bo is surprisingly elated to step upto the plate, Win finds herself unsure of whether she can handle this new challenge on her own or if she’ll need a helping hand.

Together, Win and Bo decide to get to know one another as friends and nothing more. But, as they both should know by now, life rarely goes according to plan.

Content Warnings:
-graphic sexual content, pregnancy and symptoms of pregnancy, brief discussion of abortion (pro-choice stance, not performed), ableism in reference to a limb difference, verbally abusive ex-partner (no reappearance), death of a parent (past, off page) depression and suicide (past, off page), cancer (past, not reoccurring), amputation (referenced, past)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great debut 🎧

Ali Hazelwood’s “favorite writer” and fanfic sensation Julie Soto debuts with a deliciously spicy and funny novel about a wedding planner who must work with her grumpy ex to plan the celebrity event that could make or break their careers.

Ama Torres is an optimistic wedding planner who doesn’t believe in marriage. But weddings? They’re amazing. Elliot Bloom is a brooding florist who hates owning a flower shop…until a certain bright-eyed, donut-loving workaholic shows up at his door.

Once upon a time, they collaborated on events by day, and by night, Ama traced the intricate flower tattoos etched along his body. Then Ama shattered his heart and never spoke to Elliot again.

Now they’re working on an event that could make or break both of their careers—except neither of them has gotten over what happened two years ago. Things are not helped by the two brides, who see the obvious chemistry between Ama and Elliot and are determined to set them up, not knowing their complicated history. But as the wedding takes on a life of its own, Ama and Elliot are about to discover that some things can survive a complete catastrophe . . .

Smart and hilarious, Forget Me Not is about two people giving themselves—and love!—a second chance.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Brand new audio 🎧

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Mariana Zapata’s most beloved book, The Wall of Winnipeg and Me—now with new exclusive content!

Vanessa Mazur refuses to feel bad for quitting—she knows she’s doing the right thing. The thankless job of personal assistant to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans for her life, and none of them include washing extra-large underwear one more day for a man who could never find it in him to tell her good morning, congratulate her on a job well done, or wish her a happy birthday—even when she was spending it working for him.

The legendary “Wall of Winnipeg” may be adored by thousands, but after two years Van has had enough.

But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door begging her to come back, she’s beyond shocked. Mr. Walled-Off Emotions is actually letting his guard down for once. And she’s even more dumbstruck when he explains that her job description is about to become even more outrageous: something that takes the “personal” in personal assistant to a whole new level.

What do you say to the man who is used to getting everything he wants?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Light and sexy

When designer Amber Wyatt gets the opportunity to project manage a lucrative contract with The August Room, an exclusive and glamorous private members’ club, she can’t wait to get started. That is until she meets handsome managing director, Finn Hawthorne.

Finn has no respect for her hard work, continuously undermines her and, worst of all, has the uncanny ability to charm everyone he meets. Everyone except her.

Forced to work together in close proximity to meet the tight launch day deadline, sparks begin to fly, and the fine line between business and pleasure starts to blur.

What was supposed to be a career defining project leaves them both wanting more, but will they take it, or will one last job destroy everything they’ve built?

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Just okay

A paradise island. Two strangers. The attraction they never saw coming…

When Eden dumped her cheating ex before the wedding, the last thing she expected was to go on their tropical honeymoon alone. But with no refunds possible, she packs her budget guidebook and broken heart, and sets off.

She plans to relax on the beach, swim in the ocean, and drink cocktails until she feels like herself again… or falls over. Whichever comes first. What she’s not expecting is the brusque, handsome stranger who sits down at her table on the first night.

Philip Meyer is a grumpy workaholic, and so irritatingly cynical that it makes her forget she’s grieving just to prove him wrong about the world. The two have nothing in common… except trying to forget who they’ve left behind.

The luxury resort isn’t too big, and fate soon pushes them together again. And again. Catamaran cruises and midnight swims give way to late night room service and whispered nothings. Maybe opposites really do attract.

But every vacation has to end, even the very best ones… Can these two opposites make it last?

This steamy romantic comedy is the perfect summer read! Great for fans of The Love Hypothesis or Beach Read, it involves a feisty heroine and the grumpy hero who reluctantly (but inevitably) falls for her charms…
