There’s no doubt about it: this is sexy Christmas fun! This lighthearted romance is not your average holiday read; it brings the steam early on before settling into a sweet and sassy Scrooge story. Do I wish they hadn’t hit the sheets so quickly? Absolutely. This womanizing tool of a hero got his girl way too easily, and I wanted him to have to work for her as hard as he worked to change his ways. Did I still enjoy it? Again, absolutely. It’s the kind of funny, slightly over the top romance I love to read around the holidays. It’s pure rom com with a hearty dose of sexy, and is sure to satisfy your Christmas craving.
The story follows Bridget, a woman who spends so much time taking care of others that she never makes time for herself. When she loses her job and her boyfriend on the same day – just before making the trek out to her little sister’s wedding – Bridget decides to take one night to let loose and unleash her inner vixen. She meets a sexy stranger at a bar and spends one steamy night with him. It all seems perfect… until Bridget realizes that a case of mistaken identity has led her to sleep with the repugnant playboy of a best man, Soren. On any given day, Soren could be compared to Scrooge – and he’s okay with that. But spending time with Bridget brings out a different side of him, and it’s not long before Soren starts to wonder if he could be more than a one night stand to her.
It took a long time for Soren to grow on me, because it takes a long time for him to man up and realize what he’s got in front of him. That’s all part of the Scrooge theme and I get it, but I needed more of an effort on his part. But that’s really the only thing that I didn’t like; the rest is light, funny, and festive. There’s a focus on family and plenty of humor, keeping this low angst and a little quirky. It’s got the tension of an enemies to lovers romance but the vibe of a vacation fling, all mixed with a cute story about finding love in an unexpected way. It wholeheartedly embraces the Christmas feel, making this a fun, easy read for the holiday season. I received an early copy via Give Me Books and am voluntarily leaving a review of this steamy rom com.
