MINI AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: Until You by K. Bromberg 🎧

It’s a mini review! I’m clearing out my review queue of all the books I can’t seem to convince myself to finish, for one reason or another. That doesn’t mean these are negative reviews, it simply means that something isn’t compelling me to keep reading at the moment. Maybe I’ll go back to them another day, maybe I won’t!

DNF Details:

How far did I get? Just over 100 pages in, about 40% of the way through.

Why did I stop? I was bored. I’m generally a fan of Bromberg’s writing (particularly the Play Hard series and Resist/Reveal), but there are SO MANY single dad romances out right now, and this did not stand out from the pack in any meaningful way. Once it became clear that these two would have an instalove/instalust relationship, I lost interest completely. The hero is also a police officer who was wounded on the job, and I can’t say that didn’t factor into my opinion. I’m not totally opposed to reading about cops, but I am finding it increasingly difficult to find them swoony, given current events. There just weren’t enough good things going for this love story!

Was I enjoying it initially? Ehhh… not really? I was excited to check out Bromberg’s new series and I bought the audio version on release day, so I definitely had a level of enthusiasm going in. And it’s not like the writing was the issue – that was all fine. It was more that the story did not hold my attention, and I soon found my thoughts drifting. Once that happens, I get more critical about the story, and I knew it was going to go downhill from there.

Would I finish this? Probably not. I’d finish it if I decided to continue with the series, but Bromberg has gone from a one-click author to a “maybe” author for me over the last year. I’m having a tough time believing I’d be interested in more from the series, but it really depends on the tropes.

Who would I recommend this to? Single dad lovers, small town romance fans, readers who like a little bit of suspense. Long-time Bromberg fans who are curious about the new series. Those looking for something mild and quiet.

Audio Note:

The audio is excellent, no complaints there! One of the reasons why I grabbed the audio on release day is that Bromberg’s books are reliably great on audio. Both Blake Lockheart and Samantha Brentmoor do a fantastic job, with solid performances. The runtime is also perfect for bingeing, and it’s just such an easygoing audiobook. The spice was just kicking in when I jumped ship, so I can’t speak to the heat level, but Bromberg’s romances usually have a couple of scenes. Certainly not a bad way to experience the book if you choose to read it.

Blurb:

A single dad, forced proximity, standalone romance from New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg.

Crew Madden needs to find a place to recover.
For his twin girls.
For himself.
From the woman who left them without a backward glance.

Recovering from a traumatic event, a summer in the small town of Redemption Falls was the perfect solution for him. For his family. The only drawback? The rental cottage at the end of the drive.

But then he met its tenant.

The quiet, guarded, sexy-as-sin woman who took Crew’s breath away.

Tennyson West moved to Redemption Falls to hide.
From her previous world of abundance.
From the woman she used to be.
For a chance to start over . . . and be free.

She’s settled into her new life on the outskirts of a small town, content with her solitude. Her peaceful life.

And then she met her new landlord.

Crew Madden—and his sweet daughters—entered her life with a bang. She learned how to laugh again, to love again, something she never thought would be possible.

It was only meant to be a summer fling, but as demons from their past knocked on the door, their relationship was tested. Was their love strong enough to keep them together or would danger drive them apart for good?

About the Author:

New York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary romance novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines and damaged heroes who we love to hate but can’t help to love.

A mom of three, she plots her novels in between school runs and soccer practices, more often than not with her laptop in tow and her mind scattered in too many different directions.

Since publishing her first book on a whim in 2013, Kristy has sold over one and a half million copies of her books across eighteen different countries and has landed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists over thirty times. Her Driven trilogy (Driven, Fueled, and Crashed) is currently being adapted for film by the streaming platform, Passionflix, with the first movie (Driven) out now.

With her imagination always in overdrive, she is currently scheming, plotting, and swooning over her latest hero.
