⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: Liars Like Us by J.T. Geissinger 🎧

This high heat treat comes alive with the audio, so it was well worth the wait! As a longtime fan of Geissinger, it pained me to wait two months to read this dark and delicious series starter, but I knew that the audio would elevate the experience. And it definitely did! I was pulled in right away, curious about the intense, mysterious hero and delighted by the instant banter and sexual attraction. This couple’s journey to HEA is certainly not the typical one (and probably not the healthiest one, lol), but it was immensely entertaining to read. I loved trying to figure out the hero’s motives, watching the heroine push his buttons, and feeling the chemistry leap off the page. It’s playful with a dark edge, and absolutely brimming with heat. If anything, this book is even more spice-focused than Geissinger’s usual, so it was easy to devour in one sitting – which is just what I did.

The story follows Emery, a woman whose bookstore started failing when a chain moved in next door. Out of money and out of sorts, Emery is about to close the business when a handsome stranger approaches her with a proposition. Callum needs a wife to secure his inheritance, and he seems determined to have Emery fill the role. It’s obviously a ridiculous concept – she’s never met the man before – but there’s something about Callum (and the pile of money he’s offering) that has Emery considering the idea. But the more time Emery spends with Callum, the more the attraction between them grows, and it’s impossible to think clearly when she’s distracted by lust. Somehow, the mysterious stranger gets past Emery’s defenses… and that may not be a good thing.

I adore Geissinger’s writing, so it’s pretty rare that one of her books is not a 5-star read for me. This might not have been as strong as some of her others (the instalove is strong with this one), but it was still EASILY a 5-star experience for me. I love the playfulness and humor paired with the darker elements, and I love that I never quite know where one of her books is going to lead. In this instance, we only get Emery’s perspective, so it was fun to try to figure Callum out. This is a new series with brand new characters, so I also wasn’t sure what direction it was going to go. Callum is a broody billionaire in need of a marriage of convenience, but the path to getting there is far from typical. It’s also unhinged and over the top in the most entertaining ways, and I loved the push/pull between them. Callum might think he’s in control of the situation, but Emery gives him a run for his money. They’re also immensely compatible in the bedroom, so that made for some seriously spicy situations. I could pick apart all the ways their relationship is ill-advised, but I had a fantastic time reading, and I cannot wait for the next interconnected standalone in the series. I loved it!

Audio Note:

Obviously, I waited for the audio for a reason – and it was well worth it! With full cast narration in duet-style performances, the audio makes it feel like you’re listening to a movie. As usual, Troy Duran’s deep voice brings heat and sex appeal to the performance, and he does a great job otherwise. I’ve never listened to anything from Tara Langella before, but she does the heavy lifting here and does it very well. The combination of their voices and the duet-style narration made this such a fun listen. Definitely not recommended for the office, as this gets spicy early on and stays that way throughout. The runtime (about 9 hours) is the perfect length for bingeing, so I had no trouble finishing in a single day – and I even made it to bed on time. Absolutely recommended in this format, and unfortunately now I’m probably going to make myself wait for all of her audio releases.

Blurb:

The devil’s in the details when a struggling business owner agrees to marry an enigmatic stranger in exchange for his help.

I’d barely been keeping my indie book store going even before the big national chain opened right next door, but I couldn’t deny the truth any longer: the end was here.

Devastated, I took my staff to a fancy restaurant to break the news. I didn’t realize anyone else overheard, but the devil has sharp ears.

Callum McCord walked into my store the next day and offered me an enormous sum of money to save my business. But his help comes with a price.

Marriage.

He said he needs a wife in name only to fulfill a condition of his father’s will.
He said I can have anything I want, including separate bedrooms.
He said it’s the perfect arrangement for us both.

What he didn’t say is that though he acts like a gentleman, he’s anything but.

Or that having separate bedrooms isn’t the only thing he’s lying about.

Author’s note: Liars Like Us is a dark standalone marriage of convenience/billionaire romance with an obsessive & possessive morally gray hero and spicy bedroom scenes intended for mature readers only.
