It’s a mini review! I’m clearing out my review queue of all the books I can’t seem to convince myself to finish, for one reason or another. That doesn’t mean these are negative reviews, it simply means that something isn’t compelling me to keep reading at the moment. Maybe I’ll go back to them another day, maybe I won’t!
DNF Details:
How far did I get? Just over 150 pages in, nearly halfway.
Why did I stop? I don’t think I planned to, it was more that I set it down and moved onto something else, then never came back to it. It did feel like the characters knew next to nothing about each other and there was a major lack of communication/lots of miscommunication, so the whole thing felt very lust-focused, even though there hadn’t actually been much spice. I think I like the idea of Ramsower’s books more than I actually like them, if that makes sense. I love a good mafia romance and the vibes work for me overall, but the devil is in the details. And this series ultimately misses the mark on feeling more than surface level attraction between the characters.
Was I enjoying it initially? Kind of, yeah. The storyline was unpredictable and I was curious about what was going on with the heroine. She’s got some secret motivations that we’re not privy to, so I was interested in seeing how that played out. I didn’t love some of the detours that it took, but I liked that she at least made him work for it. Mafia romance is generally pretty fun and twisty overall, and this does work in that way. It just never felt like more than attraction, and I’d like to feel a glimmer of something else when I’m 150 pages in.
Would I finish this? Sure, why not? I didn’t really plan to leave it unfinished, but there was nothing motivating me to pick it back up. Most readers enjoyed this installment, so maybe it’d be more my speed if I stuck around longer, who knows. I doubt it’d get more than 3 stars from me though, so not sure why I wouldn’t just move on.
Who would I recommend this to? Fans of sexy mafia romance where the antiheroes aren’t all bad. Anyone who likes twists and turns.

Audio Note:
Jason Clarke is one of my personal favorites, so it’s never a hardship to listen to his performances. Jo Raylan is new to me, but she also does a great job. No complaints about the audio experience. It’s also a short enough audiobook to finish in a single day, though I don’t recommend listening at work since it does focus on the lust.
